Well, to use my recovery tools for Windows 7 and having Ubuntu installed, you will have to do the following : Create 4 partitions during Windows installation 1) Recovery (Primary, 12gb, ID 27) 2) System (Primary, Active, 300mb) 3) Windows partition (Primary, Size you want) 4) Create an extended partition 5) Ubuntu partition (Logical, Size you want) ==> Formit this one as FAT32 or NTFS. you will delete it later anyway 6) Ubuntu partition SWAP (Logical, Size you want) ==> Formit this one as FAT32 or NTFS. you will delete it later anyway Then, Install Windows and you stuff as described in my document. When you have finished unpacking the Recovery tools, change the "WipeUSBDVD=1" settings to "WipeUSBDVD=0". Proceed with the installation/capture of Windows Then, proceed with the installation of Ubuntu, on partition 4 (Logical), formatting it. Use only one mount point (/) to this partition. Add SWAP file to partition 5. It SHOULD workd. Test under VmWare. Also, please note that using the option to repair the MBR in the recovery tools will delete the option to boot Ubuntu, so keep a recovery disk by hand just in case. Also, if you restore from the DVD/UDB key, please note that you will ahve to create you partition by hand first! And ubuntu will not be backup up by my tools.
Previous reported bugs fixed. I moved on. Testing truecrypt. 40 gig hard drive. x64 Settings.ini: Truecrypt=1 Tried encrypting just windows partition. Tried encrypting whole hard drive. I tried both encryption of host protected area settings, yes and no No matter how I encrypt it, I still get the same result, the never ending boot to the tools. No system image found Do you want to create a system image now? yes or no If I click yes, I get: Error An error occurred. Process stopped. Am I not doing it right or is it a bug?
Hum.... did you create the restore image BEFORE encrypting or are you trying to create it from an already encrypted computer?
I can't seem to find a good download link. Need this b/c i bought some recovery disks for my lenovo, and I don't think it creates it's own recovery partitions. Edit: please ignore this, i switched from chrome to IE and it works now.
The restore image was done right after encrypting. Edit After encrypting I go and start InstallAMD64.exe and it does it's thing and reboots to Truecrypt, so I can enter my pass, then it loads the setup.bmp page and then it says No system image found. I may have the wrong idea, but when I do re-install, windows will be allready encrypted.
Thanks for precise description. This is OK and clear for fresh installation. What is exact procedure with case when I already have Linux installed (and I have swap, / and Home)? As You know Linux practically never should to be reinstalled repaired (for boot problems I can use Live USB), so I would like to avoid also now. So, my main problem is windows. I have solution with RT7 and recovery installation partition (partition structure and procedure is not the problem at all), but Your solution is much more adequate for purpose.
Translation Hi AnarethoS, I'd like to offer my contribution to made a german translation of the user interface of your RecoveryTools, just to add one more language to choose. Interested in, pm me. Would be a pleasure to me. Greetings Lee
Haven't but able to. Pls point me to the file w/ path that has to be translated. That's the easiest way.
There is enough info about that.. Settings.ini and helpfile is two. Download, unpack the installer and read instructions.pdf.
Won't works. Must create image BEFORE encrypting. When restoring, the Windows partition will be formated and the boot sector rewriten (deleting the TrueCrypt bootloader). You will have to re-encrypt the partition after recovery. Although it may be possible to capture an already encrypted Windows installation and restoring it already encrypted, this would require the use of TrueCrypt from the recovery environement. Sadly, Microsft made the 64bits recovery environment unable to run 32bits applications and TrueCrypt is 32bits. So this solution will works only with 32bits installation. I don't plan to add this option due to that. Maybe you can try (like I did) aks the TrueCrypt team to compile a 64bits version of it.
Hi! this is a little off the main topic. I was just thinking if a (bootable) recovery DVD (Win 7) from exactly the same laptop (ex. dell inspiron) can create a recovery partition? like for example, my laptop doesn't have a recovery partion. And I will boot the recovery DVD (from identical model of laptop) to reset it to factory settings. Will the DVD create a recovery partition automatically? Thanks!
Well, probably it will by using the recoverydvd's it could create a new partition. Otherwise just restore to factorydefaults and use this tool
thanks for the reply tcntad, I will try to experiment on this as soon as I back up all my important files. thanks again!
Still bluescreen.. Even though i tested it in vmware on my moms computer.. Suspecting my ISO then but dont think its it:/
Hello again! Well, the recovery DVD that I borrowed from a friend with a laptop same as mine created a recovery drive just exactly what we're thinking. The windows 7 was activated already, but I was stuck with Home Basic so it is not good for me. I don't know if I did it right. I booted up again with my own Ultimate DVD, I formatted the recovery drive, but the recovery partition Tool don't seem to recognize the recovery drive or maybe I did not wait that long. anyway, I did the whole Anarethos – 2.0.9 thing and it all went fine, I already have my own Windows 7 Ultimate recovery DVD and of course a recovery drive. There is one thing I have learned though, the recovery DVD from the same laptop brand and model can create a recovery drive. Thanks tcntad for your time! More power to you!
