Yeah, after resize, I have on Desktop Backup folder with 3 ISO. Question: - How to extract context of USB drive (it is unreadable in Windows, but also in Linux)? Idea is to get content extracted in (eg) data drive and than create hidden active primary partition (10 G) on external USB HDD, copy content on partition. It should to be bootable (it is procedure for original Windows) and I will get rest of 250 G on external USB HDD for starage purposes and finally I will avoid creation of DVD´s. P.S. I attached Spanish translation. View attachment 8445 View attachment 8446
So you would like to have an external harddrive bootable with your recoverypartition? Cant you just insert the harddrive and use the create usb function?
No, as it delete entire USB HDD and use entire USB HDD for just 9 G. I also cant shrink it in Windows (or Ubuntu) as they treat it like unformated drive. Only option is integrated file browser (can see all files) when I´m in recovery mode, but I cant pack it because of acces error report (violation) and same problem is with copy. But I keep trying.
I figured how I have error because (it is wrote in instructions) USB is limited up to 32 G (my external USB HDD is 250 G). Conclusion Milions of Netbook users are not able to use this great application (or they must to purchase USB pendrive from at least 16 G). So, i still think how it should to be option for packed file (zip, 7z, ...) and all users can choose what to do with package: - it can be extracted on bootable partition of external HDD, - but also on PC (it is simple with any linux live USB to prepare PC to be booted and recovered), despite how it is not with too much sense to do, as any external HDD can be made to be bootable for recovering.
Image update I have also question about image update. It is many cases when we need (more appropriate word is "want") to do it (new OS and applications update, change of look & feel, further OS tweaking, etc. - and also, to make OEM copy from Generalized copy). I guess how right procedure is to reinstall windows from recovery tools and again in AUDIT mode. Question is: - How accurate is to do it (as we know, any copy of the copy is not best idea)? In other words, is it really 100% copy of original state (eg, Rockers from RT7Lite accept how that solution is not 100% accurate and some thinks can be missed in capture and copy process)?
If you want to update the recoverypartition just mount it and delete the content i think. Of course its a 100% backup, otherwise its pretty useless. Temporary folders and probably pagefile.sys is excluded due to filesize and its not necessary to have extra GB taking space, and specific changes to audit mode user wont be saved
OK, I will try again. I will make general basic version (and USB stick). It is made from OS (updates also), basic common applications (7z, codecs, etc) and basic tweaking (services mainly). I have two basic types of clients (multimedia oriented and office oriented). They obviously need different applications. So, question is: If I will use for start point (eg for multimedia users) general copy from USB stick to make the final multimedia USB stick, CAN I BE POSITIVE HOW FINAL COPY (end user PC copy) WILL BE 100% FUNCTIONAL? It is same think when I want to update my basic copy with OS updates, drivers, etc. Point of question is reliability (trustworthy) of the copy of the copy of the copy ... In "normal" scenario it is allways used first instance of the original copy. My question is related on reliability of the entire process (image capture, copy) in the chain of the copies.
Yep exactly. If you have an antivirus during audit mode you must uninstall it = Note to everyone using this software. komital, it is a 100% copy of course, keep making copies of the copy or whatever hehe
I'm now curiouse. Why not antivirus??? I installed Zone Alarm (several times I tryed entire procedure) and I didn't found any visible problem. So, why not???
Windows 7 OEM Recovery partition tool Hi again, Today, I followed exactly the same procedure, except that in audit mode, I installed the latest version of Nvidia driver for 8400GS, with no restart. When I launched the tool as an Administrator, I get exactly the same error message with sysprep. After capturing the image (second process) , I restart the system and Windows is blocked when lauching the services, after a while a second message appears "Windows has encountered a problem, restart the installation process") So my question is, can we install drivers, applications and hotfix via windows update, and launch this tool ? For me in OOBE when you do a "generalize" and "shutdown" all the drivers are suppressed, meaning that the installation after capturing the wim file and apply the image is only done on a bare computer. I use windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (latest version with integration of SP1 downloaded on Technet in French version x86) When I launch the tool just after CTRL SHIFT F3 without installing other things, then all the process is working perfectly !! I'm not using a laptop but a desktop, is that a problem ? Thanks to anybody for the replies. Have a great day ! Coleo.
Sometime, when using the "Generalize" option together with the "Keep Drivers" make an unbootable systems. It depends of you software/Drivers. It is doing it on my Acer AO521 with my ATI drivers. But not on any other computers I use. In that can, uncheck the "Generalize" option, it should works anyway.
Why no restart? I think you should restart the system after installing any driver/app and then run sysprep. We've never had any issue with generalize here at work...
Postinstallation question How to including installation (eg Acrobat Reader) in postinstallation phase (OOBE)? So, point is how I want to make "general" image, but I also have some applications what maybe some users want to install (but I will not include in main image). I want to give them the chance to install additional applications in OOBE.
Im not sure, I never tried WPI on W7 I think you can make an unattended file or something that will install programs just like some OOBE but im not sure or if its done with the xml..
