    Hi AnarethOS,

Can this method be applied to win8 or do we not have enough info for win8 yet? I now the unattended structure file is a little different then win7.

    Thanks!!

    What about recimg.exe??

    Code:
    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200]
    (c) 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\Windows\system32>recimg /?
Configures the recovery image Windows uses to refresh your PC.

    RECIMG.EXE <command> <arguments>

The recimg.exe command line tool lets you configure a custom recovery image
for Windows to use when you refresh your PC. When you create a custom
recovery image, it will contain the desktop apps you've installed, and the
Windows system files in their current state. Recovery images do not contain
your documents, personal settings, user profiles, or apps from Windows Store,
because that information is preserved at the time you refresh your PC.

When you create a custom recovery image, recimg will store it in the
specified directory, and set it as the active recovery image. If a custom
recovery image is set as the active recovery image, Windows will use it when
you refresh your PC. You can use the /setcurrent and /deregister options to
select which recovery image Windows will use. All recovery images have the
filename CustomRefresh.wim. If no CustomRefresh.wim file is found in the
active recovery image directory, Windows will fall back to the default image
(or to installation media) when you refresh your PC.

Note that you cannot reset your PC using a custom recovery image. Custom
recovery images can only be used to refresh your PC.

The following commands can be specified:

            /createimage <directory>
Captures a new custom recovery image in the location specified by
<directory>, and sets it as the active recovery image.

            /setcurrent <directory>
Sets the active recovery image to the CustomRefresh.wim file in the
location specified by <directory>. Windows will use this image when you
refresh your PC, even if a recovery image provided by your PC's
            manufacturer is present.

            /deregister
Deregisters the current custom recovery image. If a recovery image
provided by your PC's manufacturer is present, Windows will use that
image when you refresh your PC. Otherwise, Windows will use your
installation media when you refresh your PC.

            /showcurrent
Displays the path to the directory in which the current active recovery
            image is stored.

            /help, /?
            Displays this help text.

This tool is for Windows 7 only.

I will start using Windows 8 when a fully working stand-alon mini-Kms server will be available, as I don't plan paying for this OS. Until then, I will not start working on a newer version of the tools.

As for RECIMG, I think it is more to be use by the end-user, as the recovery image will be on the main os partition by default. It is used the "refreshing" the OS. I am unsure is it will ba clean as a neww full reinstall. Will have to test.

Problem with your Dvd, your computer or memory. OR problem with the Autounattend.xml file. What is the size of your HDD? Try to create manually the partition without using the XML file on the USB key.

    Thanks AnarethoS for the asnwer.

Currently triple booting Lion, Win7 & Win8 RP on all my PC's. Just holding my horses until the Win8 RT tablets come out, this would be a nice Christmas present for my wife and son (Ipad, hate with a passion because I cannot monkey around with it).

    Hi AnerthoS,

I downloaded Win 7 ultimate copy from torrent. After installing windows when I tried to ram your tool, it asked me for winRE.wim file but I couldn't find it at the place you told.
I am new to this, so could you please guide me where I could find this file or how can I create this file.

    Thanks

Did you put the computer in AUDIT mode (either by using the AutoUnattend.xml method or the CTRL+SHIFT+F3 method) ?

First of all, download WAIK and install it.
Now google for the WAIK update released along with SP1 and overwrite the existing files..

Run the recoverytool, choose the waik folder and its done.

Once you have downloaded my recovery tools, run them and extract to a temporary folder.

Then, run the "CheckDependencies" file. What is the result?

Thanks again anarethos , everything works fine , but here i am with a different problem ,
i had partition my 320 gb as the followling layout :
    1st primary 12gb recovery r:
    2st primary 300mb system s:
    3st primary 50gb windows c:
    the rest is extended
    4th logical 100gb data d:
    5th logical 100gb data e:
UNTIL here everything works like charms i even tested the recovery ,
but i need Linux so i used the last 37gb to install open suse 12.1 ,
suse take over the boot loader but both working fine ,
lunched the recovery with f7 -> reinstall windows complete until 100% and Ding message "process stop" , restart windows ding message again something like "Windows Setup can not configure Windows on this computer's hardware" .
    what do i want ?
    - when i recover the windows ,forget about the linux partitions just install windows i will deal with bootloader to boot linux.
    OR
-when i recover the windows forget about linux partitions at all , i will install it again .

Never tried it with dual-boot situation.
Original version or Basic version of the tools?
The error message apers on first boot? While booting? After the OOBE?

If you have the Original version, did you tried the MBR repair option?
