But how did that happen? Windows 10 is legit, never had to activate it alongside Office, never touched anything to do with it. Never touched the activation system or software protection service. I did everything I was supposed to with KMS_VL_ALL, etc. What happens if I reset, repair, whatever my OS and it still happens?
There are many culprits here, we can speculate about: 1. When "upgrading" to Office 2010, the activation part got somehow corrupted. 2. You've used a retail installer of Office 2010 before. There might be still traces on your system of this install which were not removed properly by the uninstaller and this interferes with the activation. 3. The Retail-to-VL conversion process failed in an unkown way. (e.g. old licenses were not removed properly which interferes with the activation.) 4. You did not convert Office 2010 to volume lincesing mode. 5. You did not uninstall the old copies of Office 2007/2010 properly. 6. You tampered with services / registry keys / files, which led to a corrupted install. (includes editing, moving, copying, deleting files, directory, registry keys, disabling / enabling services, etc.) 7. You tampered with the installer, which led to a corrupted install. 8. Your AV still blocks the (local) KMS server (installation). 9. The tools do not work with your current system/settings configuration. ... I'm guessing that old (activation) traces are the culprits but of course I'm just speculating here. After reinstalling/resetting your system you should install Office 2010 from the ISOs I've sent you. Those are from Microsoft VLSC and will work with KMS server activation method and you don't have to convert your copy beforehand. And of course read the manual / readme file carefully in any case we or you have missed something.
The name of the 2010 vl-iso is in post #33 of this thread, and can be found with google search rather easily. No retail to volume conversion would be needed if this is used. The many culprits sited by @pribiteby could be most expediently corrected by reinstalling Windows, then install office, and don’t monkey with settings that shouldn’t be monkeyed with.
But I didn't monkey with anything, though. That's the problem. I just did what the readme's of KMS_VL_ALL, etc told me. But I am going to reset my PC and see what happens. I will get back to you guys asap.
Well, I did exactly this. Last night, I reset my PC, went straight afterward to use an ISO you sent me and activated my install with KMS_VL_ALL and it still happened. Just now. Worked fine last night, though, heh. So, I give up. I'm just going to work around it, uninstall when done, and call it a wrap. I appreciate everyone's input and help, but I don't have the time or patience to deal with this s**t anymore. And no, I won't bother with other versions of Word. They all have their own problems as said before, and in the future, I'll just stick with an open source program if I need one later.
Unless....would going above resetting work? Like scorched earth? Or did Microsoft just block the key or whatever? I figured I should make sure before moving on, in case there was any other options I'm missing. Once again, thank you for your help.
Well, that was my first question, but I refrained from asking. What exactly did you mean by "I reset my PC"? Was it boot from Win 10 installation media and do complete reinstall?
I have great difficulty in believing that there is a file that is so difficult to open in ALL offices on the market (as long as paid, free, opensource versions, etc.) I am a man of very little faith! it's not fear, paranoia... have you actually tested it? doc or docx are simple, well documented... I have so little faith, so little.
Of course I've tested it, or I wouldn't post what I post. It opens just fine in Word 2007/2010. It lags so much in 2013 that I can't even see if it would go into RF mode. It opens up in RF mode in the others. It doesn't open at all/crashes the program with the free alternatives. It's a pretty big file, so it takes a while (but not too long) to open and save/close. I was hoping to get the RF mode stuff dealt with until I could finish. It's nothing like a school/work project, thankfully - it's just something I've been working on during the pandemic, a journal of my experiences and such from the beginning to whenever it officially ends. I wanted to write a memento of these years so I could look back decades later. I appreciate your offer to test, but there's some personal stuff in there I'd rather no one see. I've had varying degrees of problems with the RF mode. Sometimes, Word 2007/2010 would run just fine for a few weeks or so, then go into RF mode. Other times, like today, it does so within the span of the day. I don't get it. There's no error prompts, nothing that says it's not really activated/activated properly. Everything looks fine. It's activated, it runs, etc. And all such times, I activated it like I should. Got a trusted ISO, used KMS_VL_ALL or another approved method from this site, and went to work on my document, only for it to go into RF mode as I was working on it or away from my computer. I've noticed that even when said document is out of commission, I can open a new document with everything working. I've tried opening the document and repairing it, but nothing came up to suggest it repaired anything after opening. Prior, I had moved the entire document to a brand new document, and yet it still happens. I reset my PC, and I don't want to get back into the trap of trying out all sorts of ISOs and all sorts of activation methods, etc. So, I'm just going to work around it as best as I can. As I trim the document, maybe that will help or at least cut back on the time it takes to open/close. I get errors at times indicating that I've reached Word's page limit of 32,000+ pages. That may seem like a lot, I know, but I love writing, and I've been writing quite a lot working from home and all. I wonder if that's the issue and if I need to just cut back on the amount of pages so it wouldn't slip into RF mode. Honestly, until I see something that I can do to make it work properly, I can only work around it. But at least I could ask y'all for help on this. R/piracy basically deletes your posts without warning and I can't stand how Reddit operates - I prefer forums.
I have already backed up my files. Boot from USB? Why do I need to do that as opposed to the cloud? And how are you so sure that'd work? Also, articles online seem to hold that using the cloud isn't bad at all. And it shows on Disk Management I have three 'disk 0' partitions, labeled 1, 2 and 5. 1 is a recovery partition. 2 is an EFI system partition and 5 is also a recovery partition. Should I delete those? How do I delete those, then? I right click on the first and fifth one, all that shows is 'Help,' and the second has other options, but all are greyed out.
Let’s just say that I know for certain that office 2010 volume version will install on freshly installed Win 10 and activate via kms_vl_all. And it will work properly.
@StrugglingwithOffice Do you really want to say that you have a 32,000+ page Word document? How is this possible? Or do I see something wrong?
I just like to write. It's like how Forrest Gump liked to run, I guess. I didn't intend on it, of course - it just sorta happened. Do you think this is why I'm having this problem?
Sorry, no. No, I don't think about anything anymore, but I know there was one who thought that all the Google search answers would be good to print out. But do you know what the problem was? It turned out that there is not so much paper in the world.
