Folks, unless these new loaders are specifically written to address the Mac issue they are not going to work any differently.
New loader time! OK last week I decided to put together a new grldr-based loader using a newer version of Grub4Dos. The old one (v0.4.3 from March 2007) used by other loaders is what causes the delay. Actually, it's lots of short delays, during grub startup, during the chainloader command, the boot command. Pretty much everything sticks on the Mac partition for a few seconds and it adds up quickly. I'm not sure how easy it would be to fix the existing grldr code. Anyway, my new loader has been running well on my Macbook (and VBox virtual machine, and main PC) for the past 4-5 days so I think it's time to share. If a Mac user wants to help me test it, PM me. Please have Hazar's 7loader already installed and working first as it makes installation easier. If you don't have a basic idea how grldr works and is installed, I suggest waiting for other people to test it first.
zsmin/hazar, Excellent! I'm offering to test your new loader which addresses the Mac boot issues. Let me know.
Well folks I'm happy to say it looks like we finally have a fix! I just got done testing zsmin's new beta 1 grldr loader, and it's working great on my MacBook Pro 2.16 Core 2 Duo. The 40 second boot delay is gone and hazar's loader for Windows 7 remains activated! So the workings are there. Hazar is working with zsmin to make it even better as well as ready for public consumption! Great work guys! I'll take the liberty to say the Macintosh Community thanks you both!
Thanks ripcord01. I've had a couple of positive results now, so if others want to try, PM me. Installation involves just overwriting the old grldr with mine. Full instructions are included.
zsmin, Thanks so much for taking the time to address this issue for us Mac users! Hopefully it will work for many others!
Ok, since this was a fresh install of Windows 7 via Snow Leopard 10A432 (that's the GM) that will be selling this Friday. I just got done installing the Bootcamp drivers for Windows from it. Everything still continues to look good. Windows 7 continues to boot normally (no 40 sec delay), and Windows 7 remains successfully activated!
Ok, just got done ordering the legit retail version of Snow Leopard from Apple's store which will arrive this Friday. Folks for $29.00 + tax you can't beat it! It blows Windows 7 right out of the water! Apple is also offering free shipping with it.
By comparing OS X and Windows you are already an iDIOT. It is like comparing Apple and Orange both are edible fruits but fundamentally different. I expect anybody who said Win7 sucks compared to OS X to use OS X only and not slapping your own mouth and installing Windows 7.
You can't do a direct comparison between a *NIX and a NT architecture. iDIOTS like to delete their previous post too although that is pretty sad.
Wow, I'm just in awe of your intelligent approach. I've certainly learned my lesson going up against your superior reasoning skills.
You two are acting like little kids my daughter acts better then you guys do. What's next? someone stole your Oreo cookies? Oh Noes!!!! Mommy!!!!!!!!!!!
