Worked on my wife's macbook pro, delay is now much less (~5sec) and windows is still activated. Thanks heaps!!
Yes it's amazing that this bug is fixed after nearly 3 years. Great respect to @zsmin who takes the efford to solve this.
Same with me. I have a Desktop Mac Pro 2008 early and Hazar's 7loader activates my Windows 7 alright but when I replace the grldr file in the bootcamp directory and restart I get the flashing cursor then it just reboots again and does not go on to load Windows 7.
I have an older Mac Pro myself, but none of the loaders I've tried so far have worked. My setup is one SATA disk for OS X, and another SATA disk (not just a partition) for Windows. Does your Windows 7 reside in THE SAME physical disk as your OS X? I still have to test the no-delay grub on my Mac Pro. I know it works flawlessly on other Macs, such as MacBook Pros and iMacs.
When releasing the final version of the fix could you please include a working version of the 7Loader? A complete package would be very much appreciated! Thanx!
My setup is NOT on the same physical disk as my OSX but on a separate one. SATA disk Bay 2. So far it is activated, I just hope it stays that way.
Then your Windows setup is similar to mine: In my case, Vista Ultimate sans SP1 in a SATA hard disk of its own in Bay 2. The disk has a GPT table (GUID), with no additional partitions. I've been unable to activate via a Loader, because even if I succeed activating with any of them, the activation will be gone one or two reboots later. That's why I've had to stick to pre-SP1 Vista. It's activated via Clony (Paradox). I'll see if I can activate via the more modern no-delay grub. By the way, I applied johnsock's hack to the Windows MBR and changed the relevant key in the Windows registry so as to enable AHCI when running Windows. This probably means that we'll have to fiddle with the MBR in order to have activation AND AHCI at the same time!
Great work, Hazar. When you speak of the new grub loader, does that mean the one that won't get stuck for 40 seconds on Mac peculiarities like HFS? Some unconfirmed rumors claimed that the Mac Pro's inablity to activate using VistaLoader was due to the fact that the version of grub was too primitive and badly written for machines with AHCI capabilities (even if unimplemented in Windows, like Mac Pros). Do you think the newer grub may solve that problem? Thanks.
Peter, zsmin is the author of the new grub. And hazar again, the job of loader installer of course : )
Yea, I was just telling him that most people (for example me) don't know anything about how grldr works and the secrets of the boot up process that after all these years only 1 person was able to fix. So AHCI, partition scanning, sheesh, i leave that to zsmin the mac boot god ^^^
Well I sorta undestand what hes doing, basically I was right about the root cause, the older versions of grub4dos hang on mac partitions of HFS. Newwer versions just skip straight over them. zsmin rewrote a SLIC implementer from scratch (clever dude!) and I did some testing for him as it worked great on macs but wrecked my boot lol. But he sorted it now, and I've got it and it will go into 1.6, which will probably be released just after oct 22nd, when the new keys are leaked. So far I can activate enterprise, ultimate, professional and starter. When I get the home prem and basic keys its release time 8)
Yes, I know, but it appears that Hazar and, perhaps, others have contributed to debugging it a little. That's great.
This has been pretty quiet lately. I don't have the time right now to attempt activation of Windows 7 on my Mac Pro. I am going to buy a new hard drive and install Windows 7 on it. That way, I won't have to back Vista up and restore so often. That way, for the time being, I'll have OS X in Bay 1, Vista in Bay 2 and Windows 7 in Bay 3. I just want to see if I can activate starting (using Boot Camp) from Bay 3.
