Has anyone tested this using the bootcamp partition under VMWare FUsion? Would be nice to know if it will stay activated no matter which way I boot before I commit to installing Windows 7.
A regular bootloader will suffice for Fusion and Parallels installations, as the virtual machine has nothing to do with Mac hardware or HFS file systems. In any case, I see no reason why zsmin's loader shouldn't work in virtual machines.
Virplay, if you're out there - Can you tell me the exact steps you took to get Windows 7 activated and running? We seemed to share the same issues (indefinite blinking cursor upon user a loader) and it seems like your problem has been solved. Thanks in advance!
Well, I tried it just now using virplay's instructions minus the initial apps, and I got the same result as I always have. Can anyone explain what those apps actually do before I go and install them?
NTFS-3g, like Paragon's NTFS for Mac OS X, is a driver that allows OS X to WRITE on NTFS partitions. If you don't have either NTFS-3g or NTFS for Mac OS X, you CAN'T possibly have followed virplay's instructions for Windows activation, unless you use FAT32.
At long last, successful activation I'm thrilled to report that, at long last, many months after giving up on upgrading Vista to SP1, I've been able to successfully activate Windows 7 on my Mac Pro 1.1 (one of the early models), using zsmin's new grub loader on 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Great job, zsmin. By the way, although I consider this much less important, do you thank you can do something with enabling AHCI on Macs? If not, once I have my entire system setup, I'll see if something can be done with johnsock's script and the Windows 7 MBR. All the best.
Hi Peter. I think I'll leave it until the weekend before doing any more work on this, but I got your message thanks (I replied yesterday, not received it?) I'm not sure what the Dell issue was but the new table entries weren't being saved into memory at all.
Now what really interests me is finding a way of having dual boot, lo*der and TrueCrypt full system encryption at the same time on my MBP...
Well no, obviously I didn't follow his instructions completely because my results varied early in the process. He said that the 1.5 loader worked for him, save for the 45 second delay. It didn't work for me at all. Same indefinite blinking cursor. It says in zsmin's instructions, "2. Verify that Hazar's loader is functioning correctly. Your computer should boot (though there will be a delay) and activation should be successful. If this is not happening, DO NOT CONTINUE!" Well, it wasn't loading after 45 seconds (or 5 minutes for that matter), so I chose not to continue. That's why I was asking what the two apps he mentioned actually do, because I have a feeling it's related to one of those. I already stated I didn't use either of those apps, because he said he wasn't sure if they were necessary. I'll try NTFs 3g out though. Still not sure what the first app mentioned does...
Is what I did, maybe if u follow all my steps it will work. Try NTFs 3g, reboot ur mac, and start the process.
No need. Daz has included zsmin's experimental loader. Check it up. It should do the trick. NONE, and I mean ABSOLUTELY NONE of the loaders were able to activate my Mac Pro with either Vista SP1 or Windows 7 until zsmin came along. A couple of weeks ago I tried with Hazar, Orbit30, etc., you name it. It didn't work. It isn't their fault. They're simply using an old loader that works for most machines (including Macs), but NOT on Mac Pros and a few other top-of-the-line computers of other manufacturers. So, chances are that even if the regular loader doesn't work on your computer, zsmin's might. Try Daz with the experimental loader. Forget about NTFS-3g if you don't need it.
SUCCESS! I installed NTFS-3g, then proceeded with the Windows 7 activation with 1.5 loader, and after a 40 second delay I was in, with full activation. Thanks guys! I'll give zsmin's a try if I ever have to go through with this again. Now to replace that grldr...
Everything's going well, except now I don't have any audio. I tried installing Boot Camp drivers from Snow Leopard's disc, but it kept saying I needed elevated privileges to run it. Had to install the 64 bit drivers from my original Leopard disc. So right now I have Boot Camp 2.1 drivers installed, and no sound. Any ideas how to get sound running through my speakers?
Sure thing. The 64-bit version of Boot Camp 3.0 is disabled by default on some 64-bit-capable Macs. No idea why, but solving it is simple (or was in my case). Do the following (I'm taking for granted you're using Windows 7): 1. Click Start Button, Control Panel, System and Security, Change User Account Settings. 2. Lower the slider down to "Never Notify". 3. Restart Windows. 4. Insert the Snow Leopard DVD. Don't bother running Setup; just open the DVD in Windows Explorer. 5. Navigate to "Boot Camp/Drivers/Apple". 6. Double-click on BootCamp64" (it has the [probably hidden] extension msi). 7. Proceed with the driver installation. It should work. 8. When prompted, restart Windows. 9. Eject the Snow Leopard DVD. 10. Go back Change User Account Settings and move the slider two notches up to Default. You should be done.
