Well I got my Office Professional Plus 2010 for $9 through a special offer through my company. OpenOffice doesn't even come close ot MS Office!
i have never paid microsoft for anything...not for xp...not for vista...not for 7...never, not a single buck...no way am i paying them for office!!! i.m.o. for every paid software / application there is always a free alternative...it might do a bit less than the paid software but it is free right!!! bottomline...open office for me!!! p.s. : i have even introduced some ardent microsoft office users to open office & they are pretty satisfied!!!
to be honest: Only expert can feel difference between OO and MO pro. For everyday work both meets their targets. At one travel agency was pirated MO 2007 and W7, after legal install of W7 ggk, I also install Open Office (It is free for commercial use !!!). After 2 months 2 employes says: OO is better than MO, it is simple and we can do everything we need.
