Hey all... I have 2 partitions on my hard disk. and just a while ago, i clean installed vista in drive C and did not do anything to drive D. I basically keep the OS in drive C, whereas all my files including documents, pictures, movies, music etc are stored in drive D. The installation ran smoothly and everything is working fine. Except i cannot access drive D anymore, it says "access denied". i have important documents in it and could not create a backup before running the setup. Can anyone please help me retrieve the data.

Are you running as administrator also have you used original user name. You could also try booting from a Windows PE cd see if you can access files.

Yea you need to reset the permissions to the drive.

If you can, right click on the drive
    select properties
    Security tab
in here see if you can add "everyone" to full access of the drive.

It will take ages to do it so just let it be overnight or something. Once its done all users will have access to the drive, every single folder.

You can then edit the permissions again to set it so only certain users have access to certain folders.
