to me anything under 500gigs i dont see much of a point...but hey like poster #19 said u can do what ever u like with your SSD,
Haven't felt any need to partition any drives for wel over a decade. Affordable SSD's are (so far) small enough that they are freat for OS and some core apps, which I would keep together on the system partition anyway. Mass storage I do on good old magnetic hard platters. And since most of my mass storage sits on a fileserver I can use that server to make logical division of data by creating folders and shares that are tucked away behind password protection if necessary.
I do not have a recovery partition on my drive. I only have 100mb as my boot partition. How much of a partition would be needed to have trim set by Windows?
would trim be necessary on such a small partition that does not get any use and it is hidden too? In my case, that would be 100mb.
Actually this thread is about partitioning an SSD. IMHO.... if you own a drive that 500gb or better, then sure....Why not. I have a 250gb SSD and for me it is not necessary, I put all my personal data on a larger platter drive. But this is just my own personal preference, your entitled to your own. Someone can put their Windows on a smaller partition like a 50 gb partition. As time goes on and you acquire more software you might need to configure space for your software/games on a different partition, which can be done but it requires a little more effort.
Wear leveling and trim are not the same and this is the first time in this thread that wear leveling has come up. Were you thinking of "garbage collection"?
What the hell are you talking about? Have you even read this thread? Wear levelling is being discussed since page 1, and yes I am fully aware of the differences End of retarded conversation with you
I am aware that wear leveling has nothing to do with the o.s., and the partitions. I am not questioning that, nor have I disagreed with any of that. I simply asked the question about the O.S. Trim capability within Windows in relation to different partitions. If you do know know or can not provide anything positive then it is best not to reply with rude comments. My bad for missing the start of this thread....I am not perfect. Maybe you should re-name this thread
i agree a lot of apps require to run of the root partition, if shrink the root partition to small, u have re do the whole ssd format.
Of course you partition an SSD. What do you think where a filesystem lives? Did you mean multiple partitions? Get your terms straight.
I remember when everyone, just about everywhere, kept going on and on about how SSD's lasted longer or better than standard HD's. Now folks worry about SSD's not lasting as long or being more delicate. This (see screenshot) is how I divide up my current hard drive. I see no reason why I cannot be able to do this with any drive. Spoiler: screenshot edit: no idea why this image is made smaller when I upload it
