PAYMYRENT the activation of a retail key is not tied to hardware right? I mean I have activated online with my retail key, if I use your tool to backup the activation and then restore the activation to A NEW different computer, will it work? can I integrate the backup tokens.dat inside install.wim so I will have a preactivated iso with retail key without the need to go online and activate again?
I Too am interested in learning if that will work as id like to do the same for my MSDN Account Keys.
it is tied to the hardware and will only work if you restore on the same machine the files came from or you will have to activate online again
the next release is sitting here and it will have a better discription and a read me in the zip file brainsuck rushed me to release it and i didnt have time to write a good read me, give it an icon, or finish the other options tabpage.
Will not work. Retail key is tied to hardware, the difference is you can remove it from the original computer *cough* *cough* and reuse that key to activate another computer. I don't know what would happen if you were to accidentally activate that key on more than one computer but that is another issue.
you can also edit the keys.txt file the retail keys version outputs and try restoring with the no hash check box checked (this feature is still being developed but is working as far as i know) edit the first line only replace with the product key you want to install
PAYMYRENT Can I integrate the backup tokens.dat to install.wim (mount, replace the file, unmount) so I will have a preactivated iso with retail key without the need to go online and activate again?
i actually dont know that. i can test it out. but it is tied to hardware so you can only use that disc on the same computer you created the back up on im adding command line switches to make it a silent backup/restore so that might help with the dvd preactivation
it should be in the next couple days im still working on the key-cert-branding tool and my standalone update installer
OK thank you. you have done a really great job with this tool. BTW IS your key-cert-branding tool is the same like nononsence mydigitalife act*vator v1.0?
if you look at what it does yes its similar he is using my modified code for reading the keys.ini but i have added way more checks to see if the keys.ini file is valid. mine is going to have improved loading times and better error handling thats why i havent released my verion of the suggested project
Does this great tool work on Vista? I have a screwed up Vista Ultimate and was gonna run the disc to repair it but when i run it, it asks for the Product Key everytime, so i planned on using this to backup the key and stuff, incase the key is now blocked or invalid by microsoft. Obviously its gonna do a check and knowing my luck it would be invalid. I managed to find what key i have with magicjellybean and have done the onlinekeychecker to see if its valid, it appears to be, but that doesnt mean nothing right? I dont rememeber how i activated it, im sure i didnt use a loader nor is the bios modded @ all. It is a laptop which came with Windows Vista Basic, i have the product key for that, but i was'nt happy so i installed Vista Ultimate obviously with a different key, i have compared the keys and they are different. I would just like to make a backup of all the activation stuff, so that if i upgrade or more importantly do a clean install i can re-activate easily.
first think you need to do is get slick dump toolkit and see if you have slic2.0 in your bios but you would be better removing any loader you have used or do fresh install with CLEAN vista dvd
