Is the DHCP service started ? if you cant get it started a static ip address etc should get you internet
all my comments have been for when i have had that yellow error on icon and dhcp wont start can you do an upgrade to a higher w7 might fix ?
by-passing your router and directly connecting to the modem would tell you if the router was blocking access. Got a name for those infections? Might help resolve your problem
That would only be possible with either Dial-up Modem or Single port modem but with Combo Modem/router!! The OP should post the exact brand, model and firmware version of his modem/router!!
You're all wasting your time trying to get OP to reconfigure his router when it clearly works for all other network devices. You do realize that MAC filtering is pointless on a wireless network, right? It's also not very effective on a wired network unless you're running a managed switch doing port-based filtering. If you are relying on MAC filtering for security, you're doing it wrong. Irrelevant to outgoing connections. OP isn't trying to run a server.
It's not pointless in regard to security! The fact is, if use Mac filtering and allow sudden Mac's only, other machines with even faked Mac Address couldn't connect! That you never should rely just on Mac Addresses regarding security, is well known, in case of using it on a Router and/or Modem, it's just to allow sudden Mac's to go into the Network system. And that applies for wired and WiFi Networks. That was mean for to test, it's a problem of the Router/Modem or the installed Windows! I would never suggest to use DMZ permanently for others than special Servers. Just for testing purpose it's one of the available ways.
Of course they can connect, they only have to fake a whitelisted MAC address. All I need to do is run a packet capture to get a sample of whitelisted MAC addresses. In case of Wi-Fi I can do that even without authenticating to the network. And what is it supposed to test if you don't have a server listening on a socket? NAT already translates solicited incoming traffic based on state in the translation tables. Forwarding unsolicited incoming packets isn't going to help.
My bad, I missed that part. Since he can ping other computers I would try uninstalling firefox and reinstalling it and seeing if that had any effect. I would also check host file entries.
dload combofix in bleepingcomputer via usb.. run that and try after. (works 98% of times for me) also run mcpr and symnrt or whatever prior firewall protection removal tool.. avast ? avg? trendmicro ?
I use a modem/router combo, Asus DLS-AC68U. Im not going to mess with my router settings because every other computer can connect to the internet just fine, its just this one laptop that is having troubles. I am certain it is a problem with Windows installed on the laptop and not my network connection because it doesn't work on my friends network either. In any case, I'm going to give ComboFix a try and let you all know how it goes.
run tdsskiller and select in options Loaded Modules and it will ask to reboot then scan. i had a case where the dhcp in modem was not allowing the pc to get ip.. is ip 169.254.x.x ? reboot modem and router and switches.. not reset just reboot all. boot up with a linux live on usb and see if it works there to make sure hardware isnt failing. compare other pc gateway and subnet mask to match on broken pc. set lan in device manager advanced tab speed and duplex to 10 or 100 full or half duplex.. that has worked in past for me too.
F*** it, its not worth anymore of my time. I've decided to just nuke and rebuild it. Thanks for everyone's suggestions
You may try forever, first try to know, is there problem with computer or with the router. If this is discovered, then may try to do something. Till You don't know, where is the problem, You cannot repair nothing.
Magic Man suggested in Post #6 that You do a reinstall and I suggested in post #11 that you instead try upgrading to the same OS Version. Normally doing a reinstall will be the last suggestion but in this case it was the only option. Good Luck
