And of course here's the usual random internet forum user guy with the rose colored glasses and the unadultered shill opinion sticking up for everything done by Gates & Co. who can do no wrong despite obvious proof stating otherwise. I also know what I see MS pulling - I see it in my systems (and other people's systems). I judge my opinion off of that. "The proof is in the pudding." But please do continue with the condescending snark, mr. random internet forum user guy know-it-all.
I'm not sticking up for anyone. I didn't have to put on my rose-colored glasses either, because what I ended up doing was to hook up a debugger in order to see what the actual reason was for the option to get hidden, and I found exactly what was happening. All the baseless FUD that people keep repeating based on their own paranoia without actual evidence is what I'm taking issue with. It's pointless and kills any attempts at factual discussion. Thanks, I will. Just as the pointless comments are going to keep coming (not directed at you).
So what you are saying in a nut shell is that Win7 put those two files there on two different drives! Dammmmm My Myth has been Busted and all do to a time stamp? OK Windows 10's bootable image size is ~1.5 GB and my two files were only 1.3 GB. How do you know that everything was not fully downloaded yet? I surly don't!! I deleted them as soon as I found them. The Win10 files that are being downloaded to peoples computers can be any where between 3 and 6 GB. Maybe just Maybe I caught them in time. So Maybe just maybe my Myth, (as you put it) is NOT Busted Had I known that I would have to argue the fact of these 2 files with someone, I would have left them there to see if they grew in size as time went on and posted updated pic's. My BAD!! Now that is a big reach on your part. Just think about it. People that don't want anything to do with Win10 and also don't want to download any updates go and use the group policy editor and eliminate the possibility of turning off the option of shutting down windows update. Could happen I guess but I kind of dough it.
The screenie I looked at said 1.05 GB and 2010 timestamps on those folders, too old and too small for anything Windows 10. So, tell the truth, are you 100% certain these are NOT left overs from a Win 7 install? Is there any chance you could dig into the contents of these folders to see whether it is an incomplete Win 10 download or Win 7 leftovers?
No can do because they were deleted as soon as I found them and since then I have installed another Win7 to both of the partitions. Both of those partitions were empty and newly created When I used killdisk. I installed Win7 on the "C" and a couple of days later I fount them. If They were from Win7 why would there have been 2 folders on 2 different partitions. I have done many installs of Win7 and never once have I ever seen anything like that before.
Beats me. But you can just as easily turn the question around. If they were Win 10 why would there have been 2 folders on 2 different partitions?
Yes I guess your right there. I was suprised about 2 of them myself. May be 100 can come up with an explanation!
I don't have any more confidence in that person than I do in me or you. Much of what you read in MDL seems to be the blind leading the blind, and often they do it with an unwarranted air of authority or expertise.
I hear you on that but that post was back in Oct 2015 and in his own thread about telemetry. That was way before his falling out with MDL. I like to think that there is a little good in everyone and I don't think that he would have posted that if it were not true. He could have just said that he was done with Win7 and was moving to a different operating system. He did not have to explain to anyone as to why!
Who knows? That post just looks to me like he turned windows updates off, then something else he did (maybe installing mse or office?) turned them back on without him being aware.
Yep your right again, things do happen and could have very well happened that way. But he's not hear anymore to to confirm one way or the other. All we can do now is speculate.
I have turned on Win7 updates after adding the script against the telemetry “updates”. Reading this thread I checked for 5583, but it was not suggested on the list right now. These were: Security Update for Windows 7 (KB3108664) Security Update for Windows 7 (KB3109560) Security Update for Windows 7 (KB3110329) Security Update for Windows 7 (KB3121212) Security Update for Windows 7 (KB3121918) Security Update for Windows 7 (KB3123479) Security Update for Windows 7 (KB3124000) Security Update for Windows 7 (KB3124001) so I am wondering…. How much sense is in updating at all? How can I know, if the suggested list may actually not me to my, but to MS’s advantage? Thanks…
A fair amount. Common sense. They're security updates. They're security updates. They come with a KB article and in many cases security bulletins relating to CVE-IDs. Feel free to look them up.
Let me put it this way... They are called "security updates" by a company, that has tried to install an OS without my knowledge and permission on my computer, that will allow said company to harvest ALL Data from my computer, again, without my consent or knowledge..... THAT is why I asked.

Welcome to MDL ThomasMann , how are things on The Magic Mountain ? Your original question was an intelligent and highly relevant one . And I am in full agreement with all that you wrote above . Your machine belongs to YOU , regardless of what M$ may want or think . In general , MDL is a very friendly place .... ... please don't be put off by the small minority who need to boost their egos by knocking other people's posts .
And that is why I referred you to the security bulletins so that you could make an informed decision for yourself. After all, the security bulletins are a much more trustworthy resource than the conspiracy nuts privacy advocates in this forum.
