Can only be done when Windows is activated. Wait for an $whatever_hack. Edit: Well, for Default user pic take a look in thread What are the options to activate Windows 8 RTM, if any... at Post 185. Second well Wzors release can be customized like the old Windows 7 way. Rightclick on desktop -> Select customize. I'm not shure if the customization is permanent.
thanks, i found a great way to change colors of start screen (with no activation required) to force through the Windows registry - but im not sure if it works on RTM ? no_short_urls_allowed/9bftk2r
Is this the reg hack? HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Accent ColorSet_Version3 Change that value (Decimal) to change colour scheme in Metro Range 0 > 24 corresponding with the slider on the start screen customisation panel Open Task Manager and Restart Windows Explorer to take effect
Or use my tutorial, simpler : - Open Task Manager - Open msoobe.exe ( c: \windows\system32\oobe\ ) - Select a color - Alt + Tab to return to the Task Manager - Kill msoobe.exe
ok my colors are working great ! and what about changing the Start Screen background picture ?
You mean to have a nice desktop wallpaper win 8 the end off a era of naked girls / dogs / car on display..
Thanks for the tip. I created a shortcut of msoobe.exe and placed it on the desktop. I named it Start screen colour changer (you can name the shortcut whatever you want) You can even change the icon by pressing right click select properties on the shortcut, select the icon in the list you would like. Right click and pin it to the start menu. Launch. After selecting the colour you like press crl alt delete to sign out. After signing back in you can delete the shortcut. When you sign back in the colour changes and the shortcut still works in the Start menu even after deleting it from the desktop. You can test it by clicking on it in the start menu.
To customize the background picture (pattern) twinui.dll must be patched (or you change resources in imageres.dll as LiveFreeDead said). Try changing bytes 74 34 to 90 90 at offset 0x000FB1C0 (x86) or 75 48 to 90 90 at 0x001562F4 (for x64). Now go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Accent and create a new DWORD value "AccentId_v8.00" with value 100 decimal or higher for the different backgrounds.

Hi nosferati87 I use the black color for the start Do you have the hex table of uxtheme so we can change/make the start main background darker and Tiles Background darker too. There was a Metro Customization - Hex Table.txt out for the beta. Do you know if there is an update for RTM PS. if anyone else have information, feel free to share the file/link. Regards Luke
This works as an easy fix for me. If you want to know what colors correspond to numbers 1-25, do the following (since my current lack of a post count does not allow link sharing as of yet): Search Google Images for "windows-8-clean-install-24" > click on the first result > click on 'Full-size image'
goo.gl/VluyN Found that on an Italian site. No idea if it works on un-activated Windows. No idea if it works at all, but it's worth a shot.
