Hi, I want to try this modded BIOS solution to my laptop PC but I have some doubts about whether it will work in my case, why I am think so is that of some readings on the net stating that some PC s are not suitable for Windows7.. ( I want to change it from Vista Home premium to Win 7 Ultimate). Before sending all the reguired data for modding , I want to take your opinion that whether it still could be modded succesfully. My laptop PC is MEDION brand and model is MD96684 . It is only sold with Vista Hopme premium, there is no product from the manufacturer applied with Win 7. Here I have some inqueries below. 1- It is most probable that I couln't find a original product key of Win 7 for medion MD 96684 ,therefore should I use a different brand's and easiliy find key during installation or activation of Win 7 ? 2- Should the modded BIOS and selected Win 7 installation key( brand ) be matched? 3- Bios link, I will give you belongs to current Vista HP installation , it is a .exe file. Is it acceptable for you for modding or should I extract the bios file from this .exe file? 4. I checked my PC with everest it indicates that motherboard : MEDION VIM2180 Bios : Phoenix bios Cpu : Mobile DualCore Intel Pentium T2330, 1600 MHz (12 x 133) Chipset : Intel Crestline-PM PM965 ( North bridge) Intel 82801HBM ICH8M-DO ( South bridge) Note : I have already installed Win7 , it is already working and in its 30 day trial period..
Recovery thumb drive created, and I will follow your direct instructions: unmodified first. then flash modified. Thanks serg008. ------------------------------------------------------- Hi serg008, First part of update done successfully..... (although thumb drive will not boot as "USB KEY" as first boot device, but will boot as first device if I select "USB HDD"...... I only found this out after I removed my thumb drive and re-inserted it, and it appeared on it's own in the "Bios Boot" screen. But the main thing is that the netbook rebooted and is running fine. I will report back and let you know how the 2nd part goes. (My first time updating phoenix bios, all other bioses I have done only take a couple of minutes at most...... Phoenix update was more like 5 minutes of nail biting). lol ----------------------------------------------------- Well I probably spoke too soon, Netbook will boot, but as soon as xp loading screen appears bsod. Tried "Safemode" BSOD as well. Not wanting to give up yet, I decided to boot up Hirens BootCD v15, .... This booted fine into MiniXP and I was able to run all software from DVD. So it looks like the update doesn't like my original installation of XP anymore.
I've managed to cock this right up serg008, the bsod was due to me not changing AHCI to IDE, Now it boots fine, but somehow I have managed to loose my legal License, ..... I was stuck in the never ending cycle of "XP Activation Infinite Loop". I managed to get rid of this but now i'm stuck with a 30 day license. Is there anyway round this, a possible re-activation of xp pro. Just doesn't make any sense all I did was to use the restore CD, and now my license has gone up the wall. Is there a way of re-inserting the license information somehow?. I even tried the Original license on the bottom of netbook but that didn't work either. Any input would be much appreciated. sadsack
