    Update, I resolved the other issues. But speed step is still broken. And that is a sign that other things may also be affected.

    It was bios settings that were by default. I re-flashed it with the unmoded bios and discovered the same things and looked into it further. I think the optical drive had already been disabled as there was no use for it and the SCSI controller was just on silent boot.

    i used the sony vaio cr353 modded driver.....it worked except for one thing - how do i reset my UUID,etc in the bios?
