Thanks for the mod, will test in about 4 hours when I get back. it flashed successfully, rebooted and it's successfully read in SLICToolkit and activates fine, many thanks! So this is a replacement for RW report and is like the method used on AMI boards where you modify backup...but more complex in the background? To make the backup (with Intel's fpt utility) I can just use the backup tool you linked to and run it - which file do I extract out of results.rar - is it the file that matches the size of my BIOS x64_All_regions_11.0.15.1000.bin or is it the w64_AFUBAK5.ROM? I did notice in the RE.rar there is a RW.dmp file...do I need to make use of that at all? Appreciate you taking the time to explain it so simply, if I can modify my own in future that would save you time. This method would also explain why there is no generic SLIC 2.1 version of the BIOS for this board.
your bios-region backup - x64_bios-region_11.0.15.1000.bin modified bios-region backup - x64_bios-region_11.0.15.1000_SLIC.bin (unpack MOD.exe with winrar)
Hi Serg008, Thanks again. I got that I could unarchive the files, I just wanted to know which file to concentrate on but having reopened mod the appropriate file name is now apparent, clarification may help others though. I was asking do I have to supply the RW.dmp to PhoenixTool? I have tried it just now and it states invalid RW Everything report so I've got my answer I have successfully changed SLIC to Dell now. Thanks for the method, hope I have no issue with future tests EDIT1 I have OEMID/TableID X&RSDT != PubKey == Marker Do I have to alter some options in PhoenixTool to correct this problem? I've had it before but forget which two check boxes to modify. EDIT2 For anyone else who needs this method, you also need to click advanced and tick the "Only alter RSDT and XSDT tables" checkbox followed by "Done". This fixed my issue. This is a nice method, and seems safer. Are we modifying the BIOS or the Intel ME regions on the chipset? Not sure if this can cause brick or not? and if so how to resolve if were are modifying Intel ME regions.
Thanks Serg008! 1. What did you think caused the "OEMID/TableID X&RSDT != PubKey == Marker" in my mod when it was fine in your mod? 2. I used the "Only alter RSDT and XSDT tables" checkbox - are there any reasons to avoid the use of that checkbox? Dangerous, not required etc? 3. After using your original MOD from the earlier post, I wasn't able to read+flash any BIOS files from the same Fat32 harddrive partition I used to flash F20 using Qflash. Does this mod affect ability to use Qflash in future?
Official bios must be flashed with efiflash utility Latest versions qflash and efiflash can't be used to flash modified bios
