Your bios is customized modified according to the RW EVERYTHING REPORT and that is why it is important. Otherwise, you could brick your computer.

I am out of answers for you....the only thing to do is wait for a SONY SLIC 2.1 and I do not think you will have to wait long....a lot of SLIC 2.1 from various computer companies are flowing to us daily but there is no SONY SLIC as of yet...as Windows 7 moves closer to the release date (Oct. 22nd), more and more we are finding SLICs 2.1 forthcoming.

Thanks very much for all your help - i have nothing to loose by waiting.

So your saying that you think that sony bioses looks for the slic data and if it doesn't say sony then it will not flash? So has anyone out there successfully flashed a sony vaio that was orignally supplied with vista installled with a modded bios using say a dell or tosh slic? if this is the case then surely it is not a sony requirement for the slic to be sony? or am i getting this completely wrong?

    Thanks

I would say it doesnt look for SLIC data, but for specific platform data that may not be present, or consistent, in these files. Sometimes downgrading bios versions, then flashing the updated mod will work.

**This almost seems like you are trying to flash a bios backup rather than a update bios.

At any rate, it is the platform data, or lack of, causing he problem. Likely nothing to do with the actual SLIC type or code.

Sony has been a stinker since the beginning (well documented), Yen has had problems, and certainly the rest of us have also. He has much more knowledge about the platform data, and if can be modified in your case.

Sony Bios without slic table from factory are VERY difficult to add slic..
