Right click on any photo & select open with option & then select photos(win 10 inbuilt image viewer)/similar option.
tried that mate. Nothing. I just went ahead and system restore in the end. That didn't work and caused another issue. Windows wouldn't boot, showed a blue error screen with a QR code with some info that i cant rember what now. After trying very hard, i managed to get my files backed up, the one i needed, then did a factory reset. sorted.
