Well time to give this up as a bad job.

Easier just to do it manually.

Spent ages reading about PowerShell.....Wush over my head....

    look what I have found....

    Save that as a .vbs

    save that as a .cmd

    Put these files in C:

run the .cmd as admin and guess what happens....

Yep notepad is pinned to the Start Menu.

Not tested it but where I read the info just changing the verb to Pin To Taskbar then that works too...

not tested that yet...Was too excited...:D

    I did it...

amended those files slight to point to the taskbar and hey f*****g presto it worked. Ran the .cmd and suddenly notepad was pinned to the taskbar...

    :D

All I have to do now is figure out how to add it to the mounted image..

a runonce call seem the best option....

    Watch this space...

    For those watching. :)

Just about to do a test with pinning notepad to the Start menu.

Set up a nice little runonce pointing straight to the .vbs file which is copied into Windows of the mounted image.

This is to test if the .cmd file can be omitted from the equation. I have tested the registry and the runonce is there and looks exactly like another one I have set up pointing to a shortcut.vbs file which works perfectly. So hoping this will work.

Will report back shortly with my findings, good or bad...

Well I have never seen that error before.

At "preparing your desktop" it hung for ages then popped up an error regarding my .vbs file I just added....

So, back to the drawing board....Maybe point the runonce to the .cmd which is pointing to the .vbs..

    Off to test...

Off course it was gunna throw a wobbly....Silly me.. The .vbs does not mention owt about notepad. The .cmd does all that....

Well It worked. At install notepad was pinned to the Start Menu and the link worked perfectly. :yeah:

Next to try is to pin it to the taskbar at install. Plus maybe try pinning a couple of others to the Start Menu too, like command prompt, snipping tool, command prompt, calculator and computer management.

    :D

Got it locked down. PERFECT !!!!

    Here is what I have.

    DISM\Pinned\PTSM
    PinToStartMenu.cmd
    PinToStartMenu.vbs
    DISM\Pinned\PTTB
    PinToTaskbar.cmd
    PinToTaskbar.vbs
Plus I have this .cmd in my DISM folder

I have the mount wim on a different .cmd file. I like to mount the install.wim file separately then integrate my files etc etc one at a time. Gives me more control.

This works well but I probably wont have all those links pinned to the Start Menu, I just wanted to see if multiple items could be pinned via the same command and they can.

This is exactly what I wanted to do.

Very happy and quite pleased with myself..

    Thanks for all the input..

I have been pinning, unpinning notepad from the Taskbar and checking that folder. The shortcut gets added or deleted accordingly. It seems it it just a matter of creating the shortcut at install.
