free windose is free.. in w 3.0 it was all there, with no adds at at all.. must have been ~20 years ago..
i can only agree, there. but. we old foolz are under no obligation to `upgrade` from xp, vista, 7, and get landed in w8 or worse.. we should be wiser.. i was, i still am.. i like xp.. i like 7.. but i know m$ has not invented the wheel, since... and from what i saw, i suspect they are in a downward spiral. there is a reason that people start to look at linux, i think..
@nodnar: I couldn't agree more with you. Windwoes 10 Home is a privacy nightmare. I wouldn't accept it even if it was free. And I think us old dogs (and b*tches like me) knew this from the start. If something appear to be too good to be true, then it probably is. :MJ
Considering MS has added telemetry thru updates to Windows 7 and 8. You will have to stay with XP if you want to avoid it in Windows
Some on MDL speculate that telemetry has always been going on in Windows 7 (irregardless of whatever Windows updates are installed), but since the source code is closed it's anybody's guess as to what level of spying happens. This post will show you how you can uninstall the known telemetry patches that come through Windows Update on Windows 7: http://forums.mydigitallife.net/thr...ort-and-chat?p=1124797&viewfull=1#post1124797
@beamslider: It's also a pinned topic over in the Windows 7 sub-forum. http://forums.mydigitallife.net/thr...and-Windows-10-Related-Updates-from-Windows-7 :MJ
From a link in the above article, no better statement describing Windows 10 design has been said; Of course this applies to millions of entities, corporations, health care, law enforcement, governments etc., etc.(the list is endless), in every country worldwide, not simply to lawyers. Which country will be next on the list rejecting Windows 10 along with Russia? China, Sweden, Germany, the EU??? This applies to all versions of Windows 10, including LTSB, simply because all versions are bound by the same Microsoft's new unrestricted and unregulated EULA/service agreement. At least 10's of thousands of man hours have gone into trying to lock down any and all versions of Windows 10, basically to no avail, with scripts, manually disabling services and registry settings, etc..... All of the attempts up to this point have been deemed not 100% effective, or at best, somewhat temporary, because of anything that MS can and will force down the pike into 10 in the future. The only attempts at really locking down the system and eliminating telemetry that will have any lasting success are with the use of a 3rd party firewalls. At which point these locked systems are practically useless as viable workstations. So what's the point? It all comes back to this one true and simple statement; Unless MS makes some drastic changes in their Windows 10 EULA/service agreement, and the OS itself, this statement does apply, loud and clear, and there is NO WAY AROUND IT.... No one can have a valid argument against it otherwise. It is nothing more than an endless circle for anyone but M$ to make Windows 10 a secure and/or private OS in any way, shape, or form. Windows 10 is NOT the future of computing for workstations, PC's, businesses, corporations, governmental or otherwise. Windows 10 is simply Microsoft's abomination/Frankenstein vision of what they want THEIR future to be, nothing more. You sheeple will now please form a single file line for your "free" OS... And 'their vision' does not align with any of the aforementioned entities, or with the real world. The Windows 10 privacy and security nightmare issue is quickly growing legs and is snowballing against Microsoft's backwards vision for our future. Applies to both personal and business, if you remove the USERS security and/or privacy from the real world, you will end up in chaos. I leave you with this user statement;
Okay. So Here's some more noteworthy news. Thanks to R29k for posting these links in the chat-box http://www.thenewamerican.com/tech/computers/item/21400-windows-10-is-spyware and http://www.networkworld.com/article...-privacy-spyware-settings-user-agreement.html It looks like we're on the right track. :MJ
But... these settings don't work. You can't disable Cortana fully because Cortana is basically the default serach engine, and it also connects to Bing every time you search stuff locally. This means that Cortana is always enabled and always on, and if you delete her, search in the start menu doesn't work.
@mannix: I remember seeing that posted somewhere else at MDL. Are You replying to the post of another member? If you are, please use the "reply with quote" button. It will make it easier for us to understand the full context of your statement. :MJ
Yeah to your articles where they say "you could opt-in" from the data collection. Except that you can't.
Oops... Sorry. You're correct. Home edition does not allow for this. Perhaps they are referring to the LTSB version.
It is not possible because Cortana is part of the search UI. Meaning, if you delete the app, you don't have start menu search. Due to this it is present in all versions, and it also reports what you type in the search to Microsoft in all versions with all variations of the settings.
Isn't we're free not to accept MS EULA and choose not to install or upgrade to win10?? Or like many users recommended here to move to linux??? If all of the rumors about win10 are true that MS violate their own EULA by doing beyond what they're allowed to do why not make a clash action suit and make yourself a rich man (or woman)??
