Are you sure about this ? The full app is present, including the voice recognition software. And you can't delete the stuff because it is being used by the search UI. The truth is Cortana is present in all versions, it is always enabled and you can't really tell which parts of the app are used.
Simply turn OFF Recommended updates and your system won't install any of the telemetry garbage M$ is pushing.. No 'optional' updates, period.
@eko_p: I'd like to start by saying welcome to MDL. Yes. Users can choose not to opt in and install Windows 10 Home edition. But, in a year from now, It will be installed in pretty much every MS product. I am recommending that users stay with Windows 7 and 8. Actually, no. They don't violate their own EULA, they are keeping to their promise of snooping and collecting your personal data. They are also sharing your personal info with (and selling it to) God knows who. We can't sue them because you are free to opt out of the EULA and Privacy Agreement. If you choose to place yourself in harms way, then you can't hold them responsible. Linux might be a viable alternative for some, but not for all. Some of us are locked into Windows because the tools that we use are only available on the Windows platform. Perhaps for safe and fairly secure web surfing, Linux may be suitable. Time will tell. :MJ
Exactly to the core of the problem...thanks... Linux can definitely be set up for a great system for browsing, email, etc.... And for any tools/software we have that can't run on linux, we do have the option of using 7 or 8.1. In order to use most of those tools your system doesn't need to be online at all. Further, windows 7 can easily be locked down and Windows updates are under the users full control for your apps that require internet. So set up a separate 7 or 8.1 system only for your online apps and gaming, etc.. Your personal data doesn't even need to be on your system drive at all, so it won't be touched/mined/rifled through, sold to 3rd parties etc.. ... if you stay away from Windows 10 altogether. Possibly this will force M$ to change??? But can any user ever trust M$ again in the future? No, not me, not ever again...

Win10 and Privacy - Convert to Ubuntu and /or configure your firewall! There's already been some criss-cross about the Win 10 privacy issues on this forum. My response is to experiment with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and I've found it to be a pretty good alternative! Very soon I'll be partitioning my hard disk and installing Ubuntu, leaving a small Win 8.1 installation which at some point I upgrade to Win 10 If you can't do that (and I'll be doing this as well), get a hold of a net sniffer and see what TCP/UDP connections are being made in Win10 and Win 8.1. I've found a few dodgy ones today that can't be reverse DNS looked up, and a few which seem to terminate in Microsoft netspace e.g. 157.55.236.184 resolves to db3was1012039.wns.windows.com. These will be blocked at my firewall cheers Alan
I try to read Microsoft Privacy Statement To my understanding there's nothing wrong with the data that MS collect. I mean you're already share all that by using any social media, free e-mail acc, using your credit card etc ... even by pressing that little like button or browse the web you're sharing your data to multiple party. In some convenience store they even input your age to cash register before you make your payment to generate demographic data. Beside that MS can only know your personal info if you use their service like onedrive, hotmail, MS acc etc ... they know it not because they scan your HDD. In this digital era your data already exist somewhere and used for various purpose. If you want to avoid all that I'm afraid you have to follow John Connor live style I already accept that data sharing thing and all I can do now is use the service for my convenience. Beside Win10 I use MS acc, office 365, onedrive etc and I don't mind if they collect my data as long as I can keep using their service and keep my documents and photos sync between devices I'm happy Even me as self thought entrepreneur do a little business intelligence myself by keeping a record of client personal data, interest etc
Keeping data is not an issue. Scanning PC for pirated games and software and sending them to anti piracy is surely an issue. What are they going to do by taking screenshots and recording key strokes? Is there any genuine reason? What you wrote are really common data collected in this digital world, but something that screws you deeply is unacceptable.
time to slam a few backdoors.. and i am glad that people woke up to m$` recent activities. these are not paranoiac reactions at all. it is about protecting people who clicked m$`12000 word eula, and then find some lawyers`email in their inbox about some piracy issue. they can go broke on that.. the surprising thing is, that europe, germany, and the eu still remain silent. is that tipp in the making? i heartily detest linux; i have seen more crashes there than i have seen bsod screens in windose.. all in all it leaves me wondering how a market leader can take the decision to alieanate people in such a way. because we are left with few other options than to run linux now. do they have a competent marketing dept. i wonder? i have seen people talk about class actions here.. if you get one off the ground, the likelihood is that you will find yourself in situations that you would not wish on your worst ennemy. money still rules..
