1) It basic and better than most free AV but not as good as most pay for AV. 2) WTF has that to do with this topic?
That has been posted many times, it has side effects and not a good idea. It is not a proper fix and will basically achieve nothing.
Have this problem as well. Also another problem, thumbnails failing to be created? It seems like sometimes no thumbnail shows until after I click on the file once, then the thumbnail shows up. Sometimes opening up the folder, the thumbnails get created automatically other times none. Are there any utilities that recreate the thumbnail cache?
Yes Windows has had the refresh thumbnail problem for a while, think it was from Win 7. Does not happen all the time but say you unrar a file to desktop or download a file to desktop, it does not appear when done till you refresh the desktop. Each Windows version gets more basic functions ripped out and more messed up IMO. I run a little " Rebuild Icon Cache.bat " when it gets too bad but that also resets thumbs AFAIK.
Apparently there is an upper limit to the size of the thumbnail cache, and once you hit it, it starts purging itself.
I read that too and there is a size limit set for everything and can be changed in the Registry, BS that it happens in 24h hours though with 18MB stored.
Well , I'm sorry if what I'm about to say is such a stupid idea ... but if We can't disable automatic maintenance , what about disabling "Task Scheduler" service or maybe setting it to manual ?? won't that stop the automatic maintenance - regardless of whatever side effects it may cause - ??
You answered your own question, "side effects" Example : I give you a pill and you will live 30 years longer then you would have, but the side effect is your dick will shrink, it that good or bad?
the thumbnail cache can grow to 450 MB or more. and if the thumbnails deleted, the cache stay or grow until you make reboot. something delete the thumbnails without relate to the cache.
anything new ?? Well , I was kinda hoping that spring update would fix that issue. installed it and BANG , the issue is still ruling my life & driving me much crazier than ever ...
No, my cache is only 2MB but some folders I have not look inside for a while are still cached, its weird but I doubt update 1 has sorted anything as MS never fix these little bugs that have been in window since day 1 in 1 form or another. I would still say its linked to the Auto Maintenance.
I hope in Update 2, the thumbnail cache will delete at least not after make reboot and not after grow to 450 MB, only after 1GB size or more.
You can do the above easily with the following two commands: CD %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\ cacls Explorer /E /R "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" So far, it seems that denying System alone is sufficient to keep the cache from being recreated over and over and over
The system delete the thumbnail cache after all. You can't deny the system from recreate the thumbnail cache. The problem is deeper than what you think.
