THIS thread is for the purpose of ADDING SLIC tABLES so that users can instal vista with their phoenix bios.

why do you need the nativemode option?

its not running in native mode anyways as it is.. meaninf its not running in ACHI mode, but IDE MODE ALREADY!!

also dont use the 2 files to edit,, use the bios.wph located in the winflash 64 dir of my download here..

ill see what i can do and search around for you, and attempt to figure it out.

    peace

mod'ed Phoenix BIOS for HP DV6807US

    Delweine,

The problem that I have with my HP, and I understand that others may WANT to put VISTA on their machine...I WANT IT OFF (well basically it is gone already). After I made my recovery DVDs, I blew away the entire HDD and installed HP's MEDIA CENTER EDITION 2005 on my machine, after about 2 months of tweaking and looking for drivers - it works great!

I know that the drive in my machine is using AHCI, and I also know that some manufacturers allow you to TURN THIS OFF in the BIOS of the machine, for instance my friend's brand new DELL Laptop has a BIOS setting to turn off AHCI (or as they have it DISABLE NATIVE SATA MODE). If you boot his machine with the Windows XP (SP1) CD he has from his now dead DELL DESKTOP, and have the NATIVE SATA MODE [ENABLED] in the BIOS, the HDD in the system is not seen. When changed to [DISABLED], and booting from the CD, the HDD is seen and you can install XP on the system.

I am hoping to finally get this machine to the point where I can install "ANY" Operating System that I want on it; be it WinXP (32 or 64), Vista (which cam on it), MAC OSX86, Ubuntu, or anything else that I so choose.

I have tried to install first UBUNTU on the machine, and it has all kinds of problems...and I realize that this is not a UBUNTU forum - I have postings elsewhere for assistance with that. I then tried to install MAC OS X on the machine (there are forums for OSX86) installing the MAC Leopard OS on a PC. This is one which I really want to try, as in my business - I have begun to get calls for MAC support - and most of them are software related. If I can get the OS to run on my machine - I do not have buy another laptop and carry around two.

When I boot with the OSX86 DVD, it takes a while for it to boot - but I have been told this is common. It gets to the point where you can PARTITION the HDD for the installation, but the HDD is not seen. There are many different mod'ed versions out there where different drivers, etc are installed in them...and only of the 6 that I have downloaded sees there is even a HDD in the machine. It sees it...but you cannot change anything. Cannot FORMAT an existing partition, create one, or even delete one.

So I guess what I am saying is that I want a BIOS on my machine that will ALLOW me to change and setting I so desire. The current BIOS on my machine does not let me do that.

I took a look at the BIOS you reference (the link in your previous message), and downloaded it. I opened with PBE 2.2.0.1, and when I opened the BIOS.WPH file in the WINXPHLASH64 folder....and it brings up the SETUP TABLE. There is the SYSTEM CONFIGURATION menu option there, but there is no setting to ENABLE or DISABLE the NATIVE SATA MODE or AHCI (according to HP, this is where I should be able to enable or disable this feature). Maybe on other laptops or desktops...but not on mine. I noticed in the BIOS.WPH file that when opened in the PBE 2.2.0.1, there is a WINDOW called [Strings - English (US)] about 20-25% of the way down there are listings for the following:

    'AHCI'
'Enable or Disable', 0Dh, 'SATA AHCI mode.'
    'SATA AHCI Mode'

It appears that there are MANY other options shown in this window that do not show on my BIOS, VIDEO MEM settings, etc.

I greatly appreciate everyone's help and the Internet was created for the sharing of knowledge just like this. I know someone has to know how to do it or has already done it...I am simply seeking assistance in doing it.

I have posted information about my machine (I think in another topic), and I am willing to pull whatever info off it someone thinks might help. For instance, partial information pulled by PC Wizard 2008 is below:

Here are the BIOS's that are supported on my machine as per HP's site for the DV6807US:

    Version: Date Size

    » F.31 Current 12-2008 3.09M

    » F.30 05-2008 3.09M

    » F.2C 04-2008 3.09M

    » F.2A 03-2008 3.09M

    » F.28 01-2008 3.09M

    » F.27 01-2008 3.09M

    » F.25 12-2007 3.09M

    » F.22 11-2007 3.09M

I AM CURRENTLY USING F.28 as the FIREWIRE port shows as an UNKNOWN DEVICE in XP on versions higher than this one.

Thank You again for your assistance,

i keep getting errors trying to build the bios. i did figure out how to change/add what u want,, just cant build the bios, getting 3 errors for some reason..

just copy and paste the sata string there into an area with an existing parameter,, i replaced the network boot with the sata option achi enabled/disabled.

but u will prob get the same 3 errors i got when trying to build the bios

    Delweine,

I am not familiar enough with the whole process to attempt to edit/mod a BIOS, that is why I came to the forums to seek assistance or hope that I would find someone who had already done this for the HP/COMPAQ BIOS.

I was researching this weekend and found an ACPI editor (ASL Editor from Microsoft - which looks like what is needed) and a program which will pull the ACPI information from the BIOS on my machine...but I am clueless on how to use them to change anything in the BIOS.

I still do not understand why HP would lock down the BIOS like this...and PHOENIX will not release or give me a GENERIC BIOS which will work on my machine. :-(

You would think that, and it may be the root cause but I've tried EVERYTHING to get the thing to stay running. My GPU temps don't get crazy 70c at full load, and it will freeze up even at lower temps.

    Tried replacing memory, CPU.

I was going to try to change the voltage using NVFLASH but it kept giving me a error when trying to read the bios (9800M GTS).

After it locks up the first time, each time after that will get progressively faster, so it is probably heat, but I'm not sure if it is my Video Card or maybe a northbridge or something like that? CPU temps are always low.
