after fresh install with md5 checksummed source and give you the start or task bar issues.. check 3 things! hdd, memory, bios version(reset defaults too) and unplug dvd drive. then do a fresh install with a diskpart clean 'ed disk.. also note which usb port you used on pc.
Did a test....fresh VM of 7 Pro x64 SP1, snapshotted and tested, with and without installing KB949104. Both cases took 47 minutes before displaying 130 something recommended updates, 60 something optional. Newer WU client didn't make a difference in my testing, at least, unfortunately. Starting to wonder if the latency on updates is also heavily reliant on bandwidth...I see people saying hours and hours but here mine was roughly 47 minutes with 100Mbit Charter cable. YMMV
Been installing some old iso's and trying different things on a test box, 30-45 mins manual scan. Today, installed the latest 2016 x 86 ultimate on a 2g ram customer laptop, no more than 15 mins max the first scan to get updates, manual scan, chose the good updates hid the bad, finished off with KILLWindows10 etc i have no doubt M$ have choked updates for 7 but the latest integrated disc you have the easier it is IMHO.
I surrendered after 15 minutes on the one OS I tried. I'll try in a few hours. I still believe that M$ whether intentionally (What I believe) or not, isn't providing enough bandwidth. The Win 8.1 copies all found the updates in 45-50 seconds.
I think that MS is making the updates servers of Windows 7 more slower for get people into Windows 10. They dont understand tht there is pcs that doesnt work fine with Windows 10 and we need Windows 7 for make it work? I don't know what can I do... If wait until the new simplix pack appears online or reinstall windows....
The issue not a 'slow' server or bandwidth at all, it's more related to WU engine (whether our-client-side or there-server-side) to simplfy the issue: - WU sends search request, getting available metadata info fast non-stuck operation - WU merge metadata within DataStore.edb and evaluate installed updates/components to determine which new updates are applicable high-resources non-stuck operation - WU sends request to get available applicable updates the stuck issue happens here, either with the request or the respond - WU process selected updates to be downloaded and installed high-resources non-stuck operation
Thanks for the info. I'll let for now the PC searching updates. I hope that this will end fast. If I cant receive the new updates, I'll wait for simplix then
It says that are cumulative so this update has got telemetry but if it makes that WU work a little lit better, I'll install it
I select it for install. Downloading 14 updates (0KB, 0% complete) I need to wait more time for see the system fully updated again...
