After 11.2.2014 update tuesday there is no mod of W8-0 x32 files patched by Jan's NX patch. However W8-1 HAL.DLL and HALMACPI>DLL goes updated to version v6-3-9600-16500 by (KB2919394 thanks abbodi), so there is repatching needed.
Hi! How is the performance with regard to web browsing, running flash etc. compared to XP or 7? I am actually contemplating of installing Win 8.1 on an old T42 Thinkpad that also the Radeon Mobility 9600 GPU and a 1.8 GHz Pentium M Dothan. Could you give me some tips/pointers on the installation? All The Best!
It works! I finally got Windows 8.1 up and running on an old T42 1.8GHz Pentium M ThinkPad with 2GB RAM! Its Pentium M (Dothan) CPU doesn't have PAE or NX, but the system runs nicely, after the boot error 0xc0000428 was removed. However, I haven't been able to install a suitable driver for the Radeon Mobility 9600 Graphics card. I have tried installing the Catalyst vista driver called '10-2_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc', but the system complains that the driver isn't compatible, so the system runs on the "standard VGA Graphics Adapter". Any suggestions regarding drivers for the Radeon Mobility 9600 GPU?
Can you confirm that you are using a 64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 graphics card on Windows 8.1? I think the chipset is called: ATI RV350 (M10), PCI ID: 1002:4e50 When I pick a driver from the list such as "ATI Radeon 9600 Series", the system complains that the driver isn't compatible
Hello!I apologize in advance for my English (I use google translator)! My hobby is old computers. I have a favorite "museum" with a motherboard Abit be6 II, processor Intel Pentium III 533MHz 133MHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache, 768MB (3x256) SDRAM PC133. My desire was to install one by one all OS of uncle Bill - from the first dos that recognizes hard until the last Windows! So far so good - all OS to Windows 7 is installed without problems! But Windows 8 ...
I tried everything! With guidance and program for patching from Jan managed to eliminate checks NX, PAE and SSE2, respectively 0x000005d and 0x00000A errors! But then on the monitor is show "your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you"!
I do not know what to do! I want advice from you! Here is the details for my motherboard: motherboards.org/files/manuals/2/be6-IIe.pdf
P.S.I know this is crazy, but I do not aim to use it for work, just simply to have "entire collection" OS on one comp!
I've written into one post, but the system can't allowed me to send PM to another users until I do 5 posts! So I wrote a few times!
The PAE patch does work! I can also report success on running Windows 8.1 x86 on a non-PAE and non-NX CPU using the PAE patch. I used a IBM T42 ThinkPad equipped with a 1.8GHz Pentium M (Dothan). I just need to find an appropiate driver for my ATI 64MB Radeon Mobility 9600, So I can get accelerated graphics performance.
Hi! I'm having trobule with installing Windows 8, 8.1 on my old notebook (just for test). The notebook is a Compaq EVO N600c (1066 MHzMobile Tualatin CPU, 2x256 MB SDRAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 16 MB VRAM, 30 GB HDD). Earlier I successfully installed 8.1 on a Socket-478 Pentium 4 system The tutorial was Jan1's But when I try installing Windows 8.1 I get BSoD: System thread exception not handled So I tried installing Windows 8. It doesn't stop with BSoD but only I've got is a cursor and a black background after the Windows logo. When I hit Enter, Spacebar, Esc, Alt+F4 it restarts the notebook. I have no idea what to do to make it work. (Tried installing drivers in install.wim file (audio, VGA, LAN but it had no result) Patchguard x86 and SSE2,NX support removed from NTOSKRNL.EXE and WINLOAD.EXE
