Yes. The files are located in Windows\System32 of the "uncompressed" install.wim you are trying to patch.
Wazoo, So, let me get this straight. Do all of the command line stuff from Jan1 on setup, and when I run the patch, point to those respective files, correct? Also, the previous post I states about a link in this post that had to deal with the machine in question only having SSE2 capability where a hex editor is in order. Any particular one you recommend? And I also take it that I have to hex edit the file and then put in on my pen drive, correct? Thanks! VV5
Wazoo, Ok, followed the instructions and we are up and running (THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!), but now am getting errors like FaiKee did. Sure I hit F8 and 7, but as you can tell this will get annoying. So, my questions on that are as follows: 1.) He states about patches for Win 8.1 not working, but I have Win8.1 up and running. I take it Jan1 corrected this? 2.) It's unclear if there is a workaround for this bug - did you have any luck? I read through the posts but I'm not clear. 3.) Can we use Windows Update or will ntoskrnl be modified? Thanks again! VV5
1.) Yes it was updated for W8.1 in 'Windows 8 Patches V1.5'. 2.) Using CMD Admin > bcdedit /set {default} NoIntegrityChecks Yes 3.) Have had no problem using Windows Update but I manually update after waiting a week in case of problems (like the August rollup). So no August rollup for me and I will do September Update next week.
Wazoo, Item number 2 - when I logged in, ran CMD as admin, typed in the code, restarted, same problem. Any other suggestions? VV5
Wazoo, Ok, before I do this, for clarification's sake, I had to apply both the PAE and NX patches (since the processor only has SSE2). I know user als1956 had the same issue. Does this change things to try?
Did you also patch this ... ? Spoiler Which patches do I need? Click Remove PAE check if your CPU doesn't support PAE If your CPU doesn't support SSE2, NX or both (missing PAE support implies missing NX support) click Remove SSE2 and NX check To enable support for more than one logical CPU core after patching NX, click Fix hyper-threading in hal.dll and Fix hyper-threading in halmacpi.dll If you want to get rid of the digital signature warning on boot after applying one of the patches above, click Remove winload patchguard x86 Click Remove various CPU feature checks in Windows 8.1 x64 if you want to skip some CPU feature checks (like CMPXCHG16B support) in Windows 8.1 x64 Click Remove winload patchguard of Windows 8.1 x64 to skip the digital signature warning that appears on boot after applying the Windows 8.1 x64 check.
Crap! No I didn't (only thought I had to do the first two ). Would it be easier to reinstall at this point, or is it a command line issue?
Ok, we're getting somewhere, but I think I screwed up . So, I applied the second part of Jan1's post and was good to go. No more error on startup. Cool. So I decided to turn on automatic updates (since you said some of the rollout was ok), and this is where something went awry (and if I need to reinstall, so be it). After restarting, I get the following black screen after BIOS loads: Your PC needs to restart. Please hold down the power button. Error Code: 0x0000000A Parameters: 0xFFFFFFE6 0x0000001F 0x00000000 0x8192F50B So I do that, and I get the blue Recovery screen, which states: Your PC couldn't start properly. After multiple tried, the operating system on your PC failed to start, so it needs to be repaired. Error code: 0xc0000001 And then it prompts for Esc, Enter, and F8. I can access the Startup. I tried getting into safe mode, but I get the same thing. So, any ideas on this one? Did you ever get these codes as well?
Don't remember any error codes like that. It has worked with updates. Boot from a Windows 7 DVD/C Press Shift + F10 when the Install Windows appears Change directory to Root - "C:\" Run - CMD Admin > bcdedit /set {default} NoIntegrityChecks Yes If this doesn't work then a reinstall with the three patches Use the second part of @Jan1 procedure to repatch what is now installed/updated (PAE, SSE2/NX and winload). Run - CMD Admin > bcdedit /set {default} NoIntegrityChecks Yes
Nothing. I actually reinstalled with everything I know now, but the only change is a.) no more blue screen, but b.) I still get the black screen on start up with "Your PC needs to restart..." and the only difference there (if it makes any difference) is the last parameter value of 0x8138950B. How did you get your updates to work?
Wazoo, Apologies on the late reply but I've been quite busy as of late. So I did finally get this rig to work, but I have some quick questions. 1.) So I take it after every Patch Tuesday we're going to have to run the same process? 2.) Outside of this, and since it does work, I thought I saw a post on here that says not to use it as your main OS. Why? I mean it works, right? 3.) Along the same lines as question 2, did you have any trouble with any installed programs so far? Thanks! VV5
