This is only my second time trying to upgrade to win 10 from a Daz activated win 7, and they were mostly the same process.

This time after installing Windows 7 and activating with DAZ (using emulated SLIC/not a modded BIOS), I went to the Microsoft website and downloaded the Win10 upgrade tool.

During the last installation it made me create a Microsoft account, not the case this time as I only have a local account.

It now says I am activated with digital entitlement, but that seems wrong as this isn't an OEM system and doesn't have a modded BIOS...

What I am worried about is that this hasn't activated by hardware ID (or an associated Microsoft account if that's relevant).

I've read you can get a genuine ticket generated, is it possible to do this after you've installed Windows 10?

Should I... Can I... just start the whole process over?

You can always clean reinstall Windows 10 from an ISO and it it auto activates then its fine.

So what's the problem? MS allows pirated copies entitlement - it's nothing to do with modded bios etc. We thought they would have the common sense to check the MBR before granting genuine ticket, but obviously they don't.

    No need.

that works with genuine keys, you have to do the genuineticket trick or upgrade check activation then clean install

still not clear on what your saying. These HP/Dell computers that have a serial....If they had Win 7 or 8 preinstalled...Can I just clean install 10 of same version and use the Win 7 or 8 serial from them?

When you have 7 pre-installed (oem with slic2.1 bioskey) you can get a HWID (Digital Entitlement) activation by upgrading to 10, do you have a genuine windows 7/8.x retail or oem systembuilder key you can activate your clean install with it and if you have windows 8.x preinstalled you can do a clean install and it will get activated by the oem:Dm bioskey.

Pre-installed versions of Windows 7 or 8 (OEM COA) will have to go through the process of upgrade/Genuine Ticket method to procure license (Digital entitlement).

Retail/OEM versions of Windows 7 or 8 can use their KEYS for activation. (AFAIK OEM COA Keys will not work for activation with clean install - Only through upgrade or Genuine Ticket method will work);)
