s**t looks like there is no big performance change in either 1+0, 0+1 vs Raid5

Yeah that what my chipset was like after the benchmarking so that's why I went with RAID5 since I was going to chose RAID of some kind. And I didn't have to give up half of my disk space.

To make the big performance jump a dedicated RAID card is needed that has onboard ram for data caching.

I take it as my RAID5 is just giving me a buffer in case I forget to backup my personal data (ie. s**t I cannot re-download or re-create again) to my external usb enclosure.

    Public Service Announcement:
Everyone please make a backup of your crap you cannot replace.

    Story:
A customer of mine , due to lack of a backup, now has the choice to make.
Lose approx. 20,000 songs he's been collecting for the past 10 years or pay for a hard drive platter swap procedure totaling $2500.00

ive got 4x250gb in raid 5, which is my personal preference. fast, pretty safe, and i dont loose half the space. i actually only lost about 1/4 of the space. so i have about 750gb usable.
