Pagefile is the first thing I'm thinking of too. Also, do you have anything else that interacts with Explorer in any way (even context menu stuff like puush or Notepad++)? Messing with any media devices, such as anything that transcodes media on-the-fly on-transfer? Have something like AMD's media transcoder to such devices?
I just did a memory diagnostic test and it all came out clean with 0 errors so it's not the RAM Stuff that have a context menu: Evernote Dropbox Tag&Rename UltraISO Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus Adobe Acrobat Pro XI now how can we find out which one caused the error? PS: this is not a new problem, it has been happening on Both Windows 7 and Windows 8 so it must be one of my apps, all the apps are up to date to their latest versions though
My suggestion is to change your Pagefile setting to Custom Size and use the recommended amount for both the minimum and maximum. Then try that for a while and see if the problem goes away or is still there.
doesn't sound like anything would change to me... can the event log or that error code not tell us anything? I've never used or know how to check the event log anyay
Here is another suggestion: 1. In an elevated Command Prompt, type MSCONFIG 2. Select Normal Startup 3. Click on the Boot tab 4. Select the box for Make all boot settings permanent 5. Click on the Advanced Options tab 6. Put a check in the box for number of processors 7. Open the drop down arrow and select the largest number listed 8. Click OK 9. Select the box for maximum memory 10. It should show you the amount of ram memory in your computer1 11. Again, click on OK 12. Click on Set as default 13. Click on Apply 14. Click on OK 15. Reboot
oh ok, sorry I didn't get it at first. Very interesting tweaks debunked in that post BTW. I changed the while way how I use my computer I used to enable large disk cache (very bad tweak), disable pagefile since I have 32 GB RAM (very bad tweak many programs don't work properly like WMP would report low memory errors even when I had 29 GB free), enable multi cpu core through msconfig (I used to actually do that thinking it will speed up my boot up (very false according to my tests and that article), disable services or set them as delayed start (horrible tweak)
LOL, but nothing to be ashamed, not anyone BTW. Anyone could believe any tweak might actually work, but hey!! You have MDL to get debunked, no?
Going on-topic again, I do believe is one of your programs the culprit, you should start uninstalling one by one and it will show by itself.
I was having this exact problem as well. I was able to narrow it down to an app which installed when I installed Skark007 codecs. I usually skip them all, but this one got by me. Something about "HD something..." Sorry, it's been a couple of days since I deleted it and I can't recall the name. Sort your Installed Apps by date installed and see if any are installed on the same day as any "free" apps you may have downloaded.
Shark007 Codecs is a virus by itself! Last Month I tried to install it before installing my AV and I got heavily infected with its ad bundled programs and dialers. I would avoid anything made by that author he publicly infects people and posts it on Major Geeks as well. professional hacker
