That's what I thought with my Dell M4400. Windows 7 does not have native drivers for the Audio, Webcam or Fingerprint sensor. Dell doesn't supply anything for Webcam, Audio driver has been broke for 4 months and fingerprint sensor does not work. Also, have proprietary software from my company that does not run correctly on 64-bit (that's our fault though).. 64-it is getting very close though and will be glad when it does.

even using a 64 bit OS doesnt guarantee you can use all your ram, its also hardware dependent.. There are many motherboards out there that CAN NOT remap ram or peripherals..

I have one motherboard an MSI 7125 that has a physical 4gig memory addressing limit regarless of the OS.. Even on a 64 bit win 7, only 3.5 gig is usable..

Just set compatibility mode for XP SP3 for your browser and Quicktime will work with bars on Win 7 64-bit. I don't know how it does that, but it works!

Windows x86 (32bit) Crippled by MS

    Hi All,
It's probably been covered before in this thread but just to clear up the confusion. MICROSOFT has crippled Windows Vista & Seven x86 (32bit) versions to only use 3.xGB of RAM. It is actually capable of fully accessing up to 128GB. The following article fully explains the way Windows Vista & Seven x86 have been crippled.

I can't post the link unfortunately but Google search "Geoff Chappell Software Analyst Memory Limit" better still search on the following "Licensed Memory in 32-Bit Windows Vista - Geoff Chappell" and the link should come up and you will find an extensive document explaining the issue.

I know the sceptics amongst us will say Ahh, The article relates only to Windows Vista but honestly Windows Seven is really just a Service Pack of Vista. I know many will disagree with my thoughts on Vista and Seven.

Personally the major inconvenience with the memory crippling problem is if you wish to run older hardware, where there are no 64bit drivers available for the hardware. If you want a PC capable of gaming as well, you would need the larger amount of memory.
