Hi guys! Is it possible for you to hide apps under "Recommended" label in the Start Menu using a registry key or some command line tweak? Thanks!!
I use explorerpatcher for that: github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher Has some additional useful options as well.
try this [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer] "HideRecommendedSection"=dword:00000001
Realy nice SW, it dosen't just fix idiocies introduced with w11, but goes back to things broken since vista, like going straight to network connections from the systray network icon, just like in XP and Win2000. This + Classic Shell and Win 11 starts to resemble a decent OS It's incredible how a single developer like valinet (or the author of all is back) are able to fix, (possibly in their spare time) a mess that a large team of developers, working for the largest SW house in the world, took 10 years to wreck a good GUI.
I turned off the recommendations in the "start" settings. 21H2 This does not remove the section, so you get used to not noticing. It doesn't make sense to mess with the system.
I found another way. In windows 11 22h2 you can turn it of with this group policy: Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar -> Remove Recommended section from Start Menu The group policy states that windows 11 SE is required but it does work on enterprise anyway.
All of this just feels like MS trying to drive home the point that they own your system the instant you install their OS. Do you like ungrouping tasks? Well, stop liking that because we said so. Do you like it better when you can get to the start menu or context menu with 1 click? We have decided that it would be better if you enjoyed doing that with an extra click. Options to change these things? You do understand that people would use these options and that would expose the reality of our poor design decisions. Like the choices we make for you and do not ask for simple to implement options.
There isn't a windows 11 LTSC build and if there was this would have the same start menu, with the same recommended section and the same group policies. And for as far as i am aware windows 11 server also has the same start menu so what are you even suggesting here? The best/cleanest option here is to go with enterprise and tweak it with gpo.
Ltsc = server turned to ltsc, 20 seconds of work Why not check yourself. deploying an iso takes laess than 10 minutes in a 10 years old machine Why? Seem pretty masochistic...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer Name: HideRecommendedSection Type: REG_DWORD Value: 1
Because in my eyes it is better to to run unmodified iso's because of various reasons like stability and security for example.
