    It bothers me sooo much. I don't get what it is but the MRU entry / last position from openen regedit is only sometimes saved. recent actions normaly start from root. sometimes from the last point.

    Never hat such problem with W7.
    Anyone some advice how to change this behavior?

    It only saves the last position when closing the program. If you don't explicitly close it (e.g. logging off or rebooting with regedit open) it won't save it. If the last used key is invalid (e.g. deleted) it starts at the root.

    May you should use an 3.party Registry Editor like Registra RegistryManager Pro, both 32bit and 64bit available. I use both (Version 7) of them for my work. It could save any single changes and much more.

    will take a look on the tools.
    btw does someone have a tool to merge reg files with options and sorting?
    not just merging, also the ability to skip commented ;
    and sorting option a-z. double values should be deleted of course.
