I use the other like you call it : crocko.com/472FA627B03C4879AAF5B58417688A9C/UnknownRE_twinui.dll_x64.zip
metro apps worked fine before uac tweak, I only replaced the file in the syswow64 dir, uac is off here ..

edit : just done a full shutdown, and a cold boot : all working fine, no overlay seen yet

Thanks, I'll try again, but... UnknownRE has said this patched file not working.
Are you sure about your report?
if yes, UnknownRE have done it, there is no need working on it and tired from the effort. :)

I'll try to test it for more than 4 hours, and if works, i'll report back, like you. We need more peoples to test it, for we can sure :)

Just reporting back here - I know UnknownRE has already said that the Win7x64 version of the .dll does not stop the logos from appearing, but I also encountered an issue when using the patched twinui.dll on my Win8 ENT x64 image. I took ownership of the twinui.dll file and renamed the original file to .bak, I then placed the patched version of the file in the same location - I did this in both the SYSWOW64 and System32 folders. What I found is that certain apps would no longer open - namely the Mail app, it would crash just after startup - my news feed would fail to update too. I removed the patched twinui.dll's and reverted back the originals - rebooted and now everything is back to normal.
I've been reading the previous posts - do you only have to patch the file in the SysWOW64 folder or others such as System32? Also, does UAC play a part in this - as when I renamed the patched file, I had to select 'run anyway' almost as if the patched .dll is no longer signed properly?

after taking ownership, renaming and replacing the file, you should have restarted first, then testing the 4 hours timespan. I ran it for 7 hours straight, no overlays seen. I'll re enable uac to see if its true what you say about the mail app.

    i'll be reporting back...

exactly like my case, except of i didn't patch the file on SYSWOW64, only in System32. The rest of your case, is same like mine case.

Thanks for the reply guys. It seems strange that UnknownRE who created the patch says it isn't working on x64 but for you guys it does seem to be?
In regards to UAC - how does this play a factor in the patch?

you replaced the wrong file, the real one x64 version which is used by the explorer.exe is located in system32...

guys leave beta testing to proper guys like LiveFreeDead... you are only wasting your time

Proper guys? halo, if i say i have not seen a activation overlay, i havent seen one ok? you should leave your opinion to yourself before judging my abilities. And what i posted is what i did. So if you cant manage to even replace a file or patch it yourself with the instructions unknowre gave what and where to patch with a hex editor, thats your problem. For me it WORKS.

the author of the patched .dll said it doesn't work and yet you are trying it again but
you got no idea whatsoever which file should be replaced and this leads only to huge embarrassment for you...

System32 folder is where 64 bit files goes (x64)
SysWOW64 folder is where 32 bit files goes (x86)

UnknownRE file, if it patch the one in System32, many metro apps are hanging/crashing.... Anyway, I'm thinking....

    "what a mess"....
