Try not running it as admin. The AdRemover.bat should run fine without being admin. It's the TakeControlOf.cmd that needs to be admin.
Ads still showing for me..I've done every way described 50times.........How can it work for1 and not another?????
I unziped it, run first file as admin, worked. Then i started as Admin the second file and it said " cannot locate files". Then i ran without Admin and it said "1 file copied" and that several times. So far Skype had an ad, it is now gone, the frame though is still visible. WIth Skyscanner, the ad is still there. So far havent found any other ads anymore. Seems to work... sometimes Great work thoug Happy to finally found a solution. Ill try other apps and post them
Only tested it on the weather app and it removed the ad but left the placeholder border Great work though, always a fan of anyone helping to remove ads from our lives
I've tried everything I possibly could to remove the frame of the ads in the default apps (weather, sports, etc) but I've come to believe that they're hard coded into the app itself. The best I could do was remove the ads. Too bad the frames won't go away though.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into Skyscanner and see what I can do! EDIT: Updated to v0.5 with support for Skyscanner.
On March 29, when opening the xbox games (solitaire; daily challenges), there was an update requested. After completing the update, the ads returned. After running both the TakeControlOf.cmd and the AdRemover.bat files (0.5), everything works fine again. I did notice, however, in the blank box there was a message saying that you could now update to a "premium" version of the program without ads, giving you a prompt to click on it. It seems like they are at least giving the option now, should you want to pay for it.
That's nice that they at least give you the option. My biggest problem with ads is that they force you to see them whether you want to or not most of the time.
Well, they updated again and no luck running the AdRemover.bat file again now. Can you please look at it again, 1337chaos? I know this may end up being a "cat and mouse" situation with MS, so maybe you could post an explanation on how we might be able to help keep this up to date; e.g., which files need to be altered and what to look for in the files? Again, this refers to the MS Daily Challenges, Solitaire, Win 8. Thanks very much.
Worked for me, thank you, unfortunately it only removed the ad image, the frame is still there, is it supposed to be like this or should it all be removed, if you need a screenshot I can post one. Also, IM+ still has the ad when you go to a conversation window.
Considering that most of the stuff is rendered through IE, the frame is actually a "feature", you could probably patch it out universally, not per app.
Oh, I understand... well at least the frame doesn't do anything if you click on it. So yeah, everything's great at the moment Thanks Shenj for the reply
Sorry for being away for so long. I've updated to the newest version of Solitaire, and I see no video ads still, but yes, I do see a image ad in the Daily Challenges again. I'll update the script within the hour to remove it. I've tried IM+ with the current version of the script, and it removed the ad for me. Try updating to the current version. I can't get Rain Alarm to run without crashing after 5 seconds. This is with, and without my script. I'm not sure if it just doesn't like virtual machines, or what. In the 5 seconds that it does run though, all 4 of the ads on the right side of the screen are removed by the newest version of the script though. Try it out.
