How so? I'm keeping then from forcing me to upgrade to 10 or installing telemetry in 7. My systems have no telemetry and no CEIP. My desktop does not talk to Redmond for anything other than updates.
Customer Experience Improvement Program ie turning over "diagnostic data" to help them improve the Windows experience. It's disabled on my systems; I don't opt-in. There's not much to block; if you don't use CEIP and don't install the telemetry updates, the OS practically sits there twiddling it's thumbs; it doesn't talk out to anyone. (Other than Windows Update once every few days, which is set to "Notify for updates but allow me to choose whether to download or install them".) Man those updates are questionable as hell. 3083710 3102810 Nopenopenopenopenope Keep 'em coming, MS. Updates with no distinctive information what they actually fix, and something that deals with 10. Thanks abbodi1406, E_B_M, & Trickz.
It fixes an issue when you upgrade to Windows 10, but this does not mean it adds telemetry... You will most likely need to install it, if you want to be able to install further WU client updates
There is a script to do this.I am not sure if this has already been posted in this thread. voat.co/v/technology/comments/459263 It works very well. I found it on the MSFN thread.
After what I just went through, I think the only real solution for Windows 7 is to TURN OFF windows update. And I have. Microsoft is becoming a dirty word.
Sorry to drop a self-promotion, but I have created a batch script that I've tried my hardest to compile from every telemetry script/discussion on the web, 51 KBs listed, over 200 Reg entries! A lot of the data is contained within ini files, so it is highly customizable! And all automated! I have done a horrible job at advertising my script, so it isn't well known, but I believe it is the ultimate collection related to this issue (Biased Humble Brag). If anybody is willing to inspect/critique my effort, I would greatly appreciate it. LINK: reddit.com/r/computertechs/comments/3kn4cf P.S. I stumbled into this thread recently and it was extremely helpful in helping me build my script, so THANK YOU! P.S.S. v2.5 will be out soon, lots of updates
