Can someone help me remove the whitelist check? I've been able to replace various hardware IDs as tests for learning more about the process but cannot locate anything specific to the dvd drive. I guess removing the whitelist check might be my best solution? I've tried but do not know enough to recognize the check code.
If this is possible i would love to see if this fixes my 'drive not found at POST' problem. Running out of time to try doing it on my own.

    -Manufacturer: Toshiba
-Motherboard Model: Satellite A215-S4697 (IALAA (LA-3631P rev 1B?))

    2. The old BroadCom BCM94313HMGB: both WiFi & BT also working great. No side effect yet :hug2:
    3. New Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300: WiFi working. No problem.

There are two versions of this laptop. One with an 2.0x BIOS version, and another with a 8.0x version. I believe the version you modified was the 2.0x line. All of the newer Y580s use the 8.0x. The bios is not online (Lenovo has never posted an update for it, hopefully it doesn't suffer from the same crashes as the 2.0x version did.) Do you mind taking a shot at it? I can allow you remote access to my Y580 (BIOS 8.01), or upload it here if I am provided with instructions on how to properly make a backup of the BIOS.

Edit: Here is more complete information about it.
Request: Remove the WLAN whitelist from this.
    Manufacturer: Lenovo
Motherboard Model: Ideapad Y580 (perhaps Y480 as well, I don't know)
    Bios Version: 5DCN90WW(V8.01)
    Bios Download: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/88257820/LENOVO-5DCN90WW(V8.01).rom

I used the Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit to obtain this rom. I don't know if it will be sufficient. Tried figuring out how to do it myself, but there is so much information to learn all at once it is quite overwhelming.

Im currently in this position with a HP G56-100SA notebook. Trouble is I can't get the ID for the new card I've bought. I want to upgrade to a intel pro wifi 5100 but I am unable to load in boot mode because I'm using windows 8 so I can't pop the new one in and load into windows.

my question s this how can somebody mod my bios if I ant supply this detail?

    Manufacturer : HP
    motherboard model : G56-100SA
    Bios revision : F.18. 04/18/2010
    Bios type : insyde
    Bios download link : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5043580&sw_lang=

    current card ID : PCI/VEN_168C&DEV_002B&SUBSYS_3040103C&REV_01\4&104F3354&0&0028
card to be added : unknow ID. intel wifi link 5100

I'm stuck with 2.4ghz if this can't be done as none of the supported wifi cards are dual band and my new 100 meg Internet is partly wasted over wifi.
    Thanks in advance

    Is this even possible?

I've seen a few other requests (all Lenovo BIOSes) fulfilled since I submitted this; is it more difficult/impossible to modify this HP BIOS? Should I return the card and buy something off of the whitelist (I didn't know the whitelist existed when I bought the card)? Or should I just be more patient?

Yes, in the hopes that is the reason DVD drive is not seen by Motherboard.

that's the conclusion i drew also after researching the possibility. After spending way too much time reading these forums, getting sidetracked constantly by cool new (unrelated) info carrying me away from the project at hand, I guess i just needed some closure.
really just my last ditch shot in the dark test condition before ruling it a physical problem at mobo level.

Thanks Much for the response! Hopefully i will be back for more fun.
