Thanks for your help and patience.

As I read through the thread, and yes I am reading through it, it gets a little confusing.

I understand you want a screen capture of what FPT reports, its log.

As for the White List issue which is what is addressed so I can update the wireless card.

I see some folks send you the hardware id for the "new" wireless card. I've seen the approach where folks add an hardware ID to the bios which doesn't eliminate the White List just updates it. I understand folks needing to identify the hardware ID if they take that approach.

Do you need the hardware ID of the new wireless card or is the White List being eliminated? For my own laptop, HP, I eliminated the White List completely.

Thanks again while I may not be succeeding I am at least attempting to not ask lame questions.

I wanted to review what I've learned/gleaned from reading this thread.

    1. In Windows we run the FPT application which will backup the current bios as well as display information on the screen.
    2. We capture the log, said information, and along with the back up copy of the bios get both into Serg008's hands. We use a file swapping website like SendFiles for the zipped bios and PM Serg008 the jpg's of the screen capture of the log.
    3. Serg008 does the necessary magic for our particular firmware.
    4. Serg008 notifies us the firmware is available for us to d/l.
    5. While we run FPT in Windows, the firmware update process is strictly in DOS.
    6. We format a USB disk, I guess you could make a CD as well once you have all the files, to boot in MS-DOS.
    7. On the bootable DOS USB drive we also put the files Serg008 includes with the White List disabled "new" BIOS.
    8. We run one of the two .BAT files making sure we have the "Security" setting disabled in the current bios setup.
    9. When the BIOS is updated we can boot to configure anything we need to, etc.
    10. Once boot to Windows we can shut computer down, pull battery, replace wireless card as we see fit.

    Is that about it?

I am still a bit unclear regarding FPT. Is it laptop specific?

I've seen the Universal Bios Backup utility and was just wondering about FPT.

Edit: Sorry am unclear about one more thing. It seems like some folks are d/l existing albeit udpated bios and on the other hand some, like the threads on the Lenovo G580, seem to be custom based on that particular laptop, hence the FPT process.

Not questioning that just clarifying my understanding of it. Is that the case?

Hoping to have the G580 tonight or tomorrow to archive its firmware and begin the process. Thanks again Serg008.

Verified Secure Boot disabled still get error 28.

I wonder if nkphuongxp was able to install the firmware on his G580 and if so what steps he took.
