Hey, Thanks for the help on this. I think the risk involved is not worth it. The new WIFI card cost $30 and a new laptop is way more. I have been looking for an excuse to build my own multimedia box so I still might have a home for this WIFI card. During this BIOS debacle I deleted all the drivers from the original card and the Intel WIFI software. A few minutes ago I intalled the new version of drivers and software from Intel and the original card works fine with no more annoying WIMAX bloatware. I really appreciate the help and enjoy this forum a lot as well as the other one you pointed out. I will keep reading and testing on another laptop (older) to learn more about the BIOS. Jose
Where this laptop never had a bt module I can't provide an OEM hw ID, presumably they should be the same which is why I got this particular one, Broadcom BCM92045NMD. Not knowing what's involved in editing these bios files I don't want to waste anyone's time here so whatever info I can provide please advise. Forgiving my noob status, the most info I could get for hardware ID on this "new" device is: Device Name: HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth 2.0 Wireless Technology Device ID: USB\VID_03F0&PID_171D
That's probably it for my adventure here then. The motherboard has the physical capability to accept the module but the RP301UA never shipped with module as an option. According to the service manual re:bios it should be able to handle it although the drop down menus are absent on my machine, assuming all bluetooth modules are whitelisted out. The hardware ID I listed is for the module that would have been attached to that motherboard. Off to Dongles 'R' Us I go, unless the resident wifi card can be replaced with a wifi/ bt combo card. Thoughts?
