Laptop worked properly for about 3 months with the modified BIOS, so it is unlikely that the problem is the bios modification. What happened with your laptop: it does not start, does not boot Windows, blue screen at startup ...?
I know, it seems weird right? But I stripped the laptop down an nothing seems to be wrong with it in the slightest. The laptop never gets to the bios, the screen dosen't turn on at all ( yes I have checked the screen, and the backlight, and the video out), also the harddisk access light is stuck on, even if I remove the HDD. The fan spins up, then spins down, all the peripherals get power. I know nothing is happening because my HDD makes a distinct noise when reading/writing data, but the laptop sits silently. It might be that the laptop doesn't post. The thing is though, I haven't even taken my laptop anywhere recently. It just sits on my desk next to my main pc. One day it was working, the next it wouldn't turn on. The last even slightly technical thing I did to it was modify the bios, and the bios isn't loading, so I came to the conclusion that this might be the issue.
These symptoms are similar with the case of motherboard failure. May be overheating ? Connect Nb to an external monitor and try to boot Remove HDD, memory module, WiFi adapter, ... and try again

Yeah, now that I think about it this laptop always did run quite hot, it's possible that the mobo just fried. I have actually tried all those troubleshooting steps already. It's a little strange though, because the laptop was working before I shut it down for the night, then it wouldn't turn on the next day. Thanks for your help. EDIT: Upon further inspection, I found that the metal backing of the lid close switch came loose and shorted out the power circuitry. It bricked the laptop. No worries about the bios, worked like a dream when the laptop was still working.
Hello, Maybe someone could share a bios of HP dv6420en with disabled wireless whitelist? The link posted earlier in this thread is dead
