Oh, Joe, you also asked: My reason for saying that if it was me I'd just download and install drivers myself was that when I had a ThinkPad and used the Lenovo Updater I would find that apps were installed that just duplicated Windows functions but re-badged them "Lenovo" (i.e. the apps were nothing but bloatware). Also it would install apps that I didn't want like Lenovo's own system recovery app (I managed system recovery for my machine using third-party software). Lastly, it would install apps that amounted to nothing more than a means of pushing advertisements onto the machine. In the end I got so fed up with all this that I just downloaded and installed essential drivers myself and left it at that. It should be clear to you from all this that (unless Lenovo have changed over the years since I had a ThinkPad) that ThinkVantage doesn't just install drivers it also installs apps that, strictly speaking, aren't drivers at all. So, really, if you want to install and use ThinkVantage then it's really up to you. If it was me I would ask at the ThinkPads Forum what the essential drivers that I need on my ThinkPad and what are the apps that are really optional. I'd also ask what are the pros and cons of using ThinkVantage to do your updating.
Thanks! What do you think about formatting the hard drive before doing a fresh install? Thanks, again! Joe
Yeah, you are getting too much advice too fast. You could re-install without ever worrying about whether you have a slic 2.1. If you have one, it provides a better way to activate, rather than using the key on the coa. But the coa key will work even without a slic 2.1 Those files are irrelevant to you. Tito is a collector of these things, and was asking Durga to post his files somewhere.
Tito, The first time I read this post, I had no idea what you were even talking about. Now that you folks have taught me a lot about uninstalling and installing Windows 7, I actually know a little about what you are asking? I guess that is a long-winded way of saying "Thanks!" Joe
I think I have SLIC2.0. As soon as I finish reading the new posts, I will check and post the results. Joe
SLIC2.1 I think I have SLIC2.0. (This may be the result of the original OS when the company bought the machine was VISTA BUSINESS and upgraded to Windows 7 Pro while in service.) My plan is to run SLIC-Toolkit next and post the results here. DAZ Loader: I am not familiar with this. After I post the SLIC-Toolkit results, I will look into what this is. Thanks again to everyone for your help. Joe
#1... I am "anal retentive" and would try to drill down as far as I reasonably could. I have been told more that once, "Do not let 'analysis' become 'paralysis'." #2... Tito sounds like a good friend to have! Thanks, again, for all you are doing to support my success. Joe
CaptainKirk, I think you actually answered my question above even before I asked it in your post quoted below. Thanks! Joe
Anal retentive is not always bad. You may want to check Lenovo site for bios update, maybe you will find a slic 2.1 in the latest bios.
