Apply this REG file to show the power button on Start Screen like in x64 or x32_intel_amd PCs: Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Launcher] "Launcher_ShowPowerButtonOnStartScreen"=dword:00000001
Here is a cool tweak, this will increase the speed in which the tile flips closed, rather than waiting 3 seconds to close the app the app closes right away when performing a drag close. Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Switcher] "CloseDwellTimeout"=dword:0000012c "MouseCloseThresholdPercent"=dword:00000050 "TouchCloseThresholdPercent"=dword:00000050 winaero.com/blog/how-to-improve-the-way-you-close-modern-metro-apps/
New finding: Support to run Bitlocker removable devices If you read Bitlocker support paper for WRT, you can find, there is "Device Encryption" instead Bitlocker (the core is same). However "Device encryption" has no parameters to set up (only backing up the rescue keys is possible), it also relies only on TPM and WindowsAccountLogin authentization. And finaly it auto-encrypts only all fixed drives at 1st login (and only when user uses MS account). On my Nokia 2520 I have 32GB inner memory, but I also have micro SDXC Class 10 UHS-I slot, so I immediately bought 64GB Micro SDXC 64GB Class 10 UHS-I card. I have diskparted/formatted it as GPT/NTFS. But it still is "removable drive". So "no Device Encryption" at all. But I made a try: I encrypted SDSX card in my x64 notebook with password authentification under full Bitlocker (backed-up rescue key) and then put it in ARM. And: Windows RT v8-1 recognized Bilocker removable drive. And even better: Auto-mounting feature (with entering the password only once) works too. So Windows RT v8-1 fully supports running removable device encrypted with Bitlocker even with auto-mount (password-based) feature. And that is great...
How to share folders on ARM using MS Network alias SMB alias Samba: You will find no "Share with" menuitem in right click content menu and no "Sharing" tab under folder properties in File Explorer, so you have to proceed by the different way: 1) Run services.msc, find "Server" service, set it to automatic StartUp and Start it. 2) Run \Computer Management\System Tools\Shared Folders\Shares and define your shared folders by adding them there. 3) Run File Explorer, click on Networks item in left panel and check, if network discovery and file sharing is enabled. If it isn't, click on yellow info bar to enable it.
Does anyone have links to the older Surface 2 firmwares/driver packages? The March , June or July 2014 firmware would do. For some reason you cannot install the October 2014 firmware over the original Surface 2 firmware. Thanks in advance.
