i got the modded bios off chinese site and the ones that used it all worked perfect it stated needs to flash off usb and in dos . was willing to try but i wanted to know if it is infact 2.1 before i try and maybe some thing go wrong.
I think thats one of the issues with Sony notebooks, that you cant backup your current BIOS. Im not absolutely sure about it, but at least any BIOS backups Ive made dont seem to be proper (got FW31J notebook with AMI bios).
Cannot be flashed with phlash. you will need a programmer to flash the bios if it is modded. It is not that the tools do not back everything up, the platform data is in the bios updates to instruct the flasher to work. This data is never written to the EEPROM, so you do not have it there to back up. Without the platform data, the phlasher will not know what to flash..get it?? Kind of a waste of time unless you have access to a EEPROM programmer for your bios chip...
It appears to have a complete sony Vaio 2.1 slic in acpi07 whether it is valid or not, I do not know...
I see, I think I got it. But Im not sure whether I got how much impossible it is to have Vaio's BIOS modified and get it back to the computer.
I think I understand it now, thanks for taking time to explain! I'm a bit the same as sp00k here. So really there is no way to flash a 'backed up' then modded VAIO BIOS without this platform data (other than the programmer route)? I'm guessing if it was even possible to manage to flash it that without this platform data it could be writing the wrong bits to the wrong areas of the EEPROM? = bricked? I was looking at the file that Williamd found for the FZ15 and was thinking of trying it, but don't think I will risk it, considering both my model is different (FZ18M - same BIOS version) and this bit about the platform data. Bit too risky if even possible for me... I think?!
