well I'm getting an error when I type those command after booting into dos from a floppy. I have used that Win98 (no memory management) startup disk to flash many Bios but it kept saying error if there is a memory manager present. I made sure that I typed the commands correctly. should I use a different flash tool since this computer is so ancient? the bios file is a .rom file. same error when I try to add the slp string.
I'm getting a new error now when I use this command PHLASH16 bios.rom /X /S /MODE=3 /DMS:EMACHINES Phlash16 error: Platform Signatures not found in the interface. I backed up the current Bios and was trying to reflash it so to add the EMACHINES SLP string. press any key to reboot. I have tried the Tatto CD but that is only for AMI/Award Bios and it gave me an error too. these old computers are way too difficult to mod. grrrrrrrrrrrr BD
It has nothing to do with it being old..you cannot flash a phoenix backup..never have..You need a fresh file from the update download.. There will be no platform data in a backup, it is never flashed to the eeprom, so it cannot be backed up..get it?? Use a fresh update file from HP and it will likely work..
what other ways are there to add the SLP string if there is no new Bios available. I think the file I found on the net was a backup as well and not a new update. With eMachine bios update files are very hard to find or non existant. I guess I'm out of luck on this one here. The desktop is an emachines Model etower 667ir
is there another number on the case..an Exxxx number there is no 667ir for the E- series that I can find. I find this board, but there may be another way.. You may be stuck trying to use one DMICFG to do this for you..or AntiWPA stuff..DMICFG is on the cd I have in the stickies of XP forum..
This is my first post, so forgive me if I have missed the boat. I have a very old Gateway E-4200, 600MHz PIII with the 440BX chipset. I tried tools recommended by posts in the forums. I don't seem to have SLP 1.0. I attempted an OEM install disc, which installed but did not activate. -Manufacturer: Gateway -Motherboard Model: Tabor C Coppermine MP440BX -Bios revision: 4M4PB0X1.15A.0032.P20 -Bios Type: PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0 licensed to Intel BIOS Size: 524288 Chipset: Intel 440BX/ZX rev 3 I downloaded RW Everything per one of the posts for info. I don't understand it but I will attempt to get you a link to the file. It appears to be very small. I also have a question: how do I extract a copy of my bios for your viewing or should I upload the upgrade I found at Gateway's site? So, now I'm here, respectfully requesting your instruction and help. Thanks for any help you can extend. I will forward any info you feel you need and I can get for you.
Upload the Gateway bios..backup and dumps cannot be flashed.. I am going to assume that both of you tried adding the slp string with phlash16...it is the easiest way to do it.. The red ones are what we are after..not all, it only takes one to work..
let me open the computer tomorrow and clear the cmos by taking out the battery. I did load the optimized defaults after the bios flash . I guess that's not enough? I will post back. so close to get this old clunker activated as Win7 works so much faster then XP on this old KT7A board.. BD
