A bit off topic so let me know if I should move the discussion to win 10 22H2 thread though I am assuming this same issue should be there on win 11 too. I am using "HEVC video extensions from device manufacturer" appx package but the issue is that latest versions don't generate thumbnails of HEVC videos in explorer though everything else works fine. However, if I install an older version appx package which works perfectly then it is always replaced by the newer version within a few hours despite turning off the auto app update in MS store settings (without sign in). I can still see the pending updates for store apps like weather, camera, wmp etc so the setting is working fine but for some reason it is not being applied to HEVC video extensions package. How do I stop the auto update of this specific appx package or any similar codec appx package?
I know about that but trying to keep external/3rd party installs to a minimum especially if it involves systemwide changes. The k-lite codec pack will install HEVC codec systemwide for every app/software. That old appx version works fine just that it gets overwritten by newer version every few hours. I might look into creating a batch script that will automate the process of uninstalling the installed version & installing the older version & run it every few hours as a last resort but I thought it should be a simple task to stop such auto update of a not so critical windows component.
I have the exact same issue as you, @whitestar_999. With 2.1.41.0 and earlier, all thumbnails show up, both HEVC 8-bit and HEVC 10-bit, but as of 2.1.451.0 and later only HEVC 8-bit show thumbnails and not HEVC 10-bit. Latest version now is 2.2.10.0 and I still have the same issue with that version. What worked for me was what @erpsterm35 suggested, disabling updates. If I disable the updates and reinstall version 2.1.41.0 and manually update other packages as needed, then I have no issues with thumbnails anymore. I have not found a way to detach specific apps from the Microsoft Store, so this solution will have to do for now.
Ah, sorry, didn't catch that in your other reply. It's not overwriting it for me, for some reason. I'm currently still on 2.1.41.0 and have been since friday last week.
Are you signed in via MS acc in windows/MS store currently or were signed in when turned that auto update option off?
No, I don't have a Microsoft account, so nothing was logged into when I installed the HEVC package or when I turned off auto-update in the store. I just noticed you wrote this though "A bit off topic so let me know if I should move the discussion to win 10 22H2 thread though I am assuming this same issue should be there on win 11 too.". I am currently on Windows 11 23H2 (not updating to 24H2 for another couple of months), so maybe that has something to do with it?
It might be but I would think that win 10 22H2 is more respecting of user choices than win 11 23H2. I will check it with win 11 24H2 first as it is already installed on a pc I can access. Also, is your win 11 23H2 regular version or LTSC version with store added?
