Even though I have applied the BypassESU-v6-AIO-WS2008 and Vista_SHA2_WUC patches, I am unable to manually install the following updates nor do they show up on windows update: Windows6.0-KB4578951-x64.msu (October 2020 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework) Windows6.0-KB4592498-x64.msu (December 2020 Security and Quality Rollup) They fail with the error message in the Windows Update Standalone Installer Box: "The Windows Modules Installer must be updated before you can install this package. Please update the Windows Modules Installer on your computer, then retry Setup." I'm reaching out to abbodi1406 or anyone else who can explain why this is and how to recify it. I appreciate any advice and thank you for this amazing patch/program allowing us to continue keeping Vista up to date. My2GirlsDad
Thanks abbodi1406 that fixed it. I had slipstreamed it and didn't realize it didn't take and had to be reinstalled. It appears that all updates after October 2020 will have to be installed Post-Setup and not slipstreamed. Again thanks for your guidance. My2GirlsDad
I need to correct my previous post as I must have forgotten to include the servicing stack update KB4580971 when I was slipstreaming. When I reran it all the updates were slipstreamed. So there is no need to install them from Post-Setup, I do apologize for this error. M2GD
TL;DR for updates: You need these: KB4018271 (recommended, long search issue fixed) KB3205638 (recommended, long search issue fixed) KB4012583 (recommended, long search issue fixed) KB4015380 (recommended, long search issue fixed) KB4019204 (recommended, long search issue fixed) KB4474419 (optional, needed for ESU updates, latest SSU as of January 4, 2021) KB4575904 (optional, needed for ESU updates, latest Licensing Preparation Package) KB4493750 (required, Servicing Stack Update) KB4474419 (required, SHA-2 code signing support)
These are the 16 files that I install after doing a clean install of Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit. They are listed in the order that I install them. A restart is done after installing each one, whether it is needed or not. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and 4.6 are installed first because certain devices or their driver may require one or the other. In my case, one of my HP printers requires version 3.5 SP1 and one of my NVIDIA graphic cards requires version 4.x. After the necessary device drivers are installed and confirmed to be working okay, the remaining 14 files are installed. After all 16 files are installed, the Vista SHA2 WUC tool is put to use. Windows Update Client is updated, then option #1 is used to obtain Vista updates, then option #2 is used to obtain Server 2008 updates. Note: I give much of the credit to abbodi1406 for helping me get through this successfully.
I was able to search for updates using the patch and selecting #1 Patch WUC as Vista and it finds updates. Then if I change the patch and select #2 Patch WUC as Server 2008 I get the error below. If I then change the patch to #3 Patch WUC as Server 2008 + Vista it would "work" Then back to #1 and I get the error. Then try #3 and I get the error. There is really to rhyme or reason. Is there a way to make it work everytime for every possible choice. Windows Update Windows could not search for new updates Error(s) found: Code C8000266 M2GD
Code: ## Remarks * You can switch between Patch_WUC.cmd options at any time but you may need to reboot afterward, and WU will need to rescan and repopulate its database
Thanks for the reply abbodi1406. I have rebooted after each time I have switched options but still get the error. So is it a clitch with the WU site and not something I am doing per se? It is very annoying I might add.
Thanks anyway abbodi1406 and you're right about searching constantly but this is a special circumstance. I'll just have to deal with it. I do appreciate all your help and all you do here. M2GD
weirdly the net framework updates dont show up for me in Windows update even with Bypassv6, dont know what to do except manually installing them from Update catalog site. Are net framework updates included in monthly rollups?
nope what version of .NET are you using, burdvista? latest official .NET is up to 4.6 (not 4.6.1 & greater) for Vista
