@abbodi1406 Is this compatible with the extended kernel developed by win32 at msfn? I used it after installing the new kernel and updates up to 2017 (I want to use it to get the office 2010 updates) and worked just 1 time. After that everything broke, windows was searching for updates for 2 hours and then all of a sudden the ex kernel didn't work either Edit: Is it possible to use it without installing the updates that modifies the build version from 6002 to 6003?
@regele modifying system files can get broken with updates i did not test or try extended kernel is there downlodable links?
Well, maybe win32 can take a look on Vista_SHA2_WUC.7z pack and see what gets broken i'm not programmer
canibeyourwaifu: Assuming your Windows Vista is pretty much up to date, the only one of those 6 updates that you need is for .NET Framework. You can select and hide the other 5 updates. If the .NET Framework update still fails to install, deploy the dotNetFx4_ESU_Bypass_Vista script first, then restart the computer. Windows Update should then work okay and install it.
I tried this on an old laptop, Vista Home Basic 32-bit, last updated around 06/2019. Installed KB4493730 and KB4474419, then the patch. No errors given, seemed to go ok. Every time I check for updates I get "windows can't check for updates" pop-up and error 80072ee2 or 80072efd. Any thoughts? Have also installed KB4018271 and KB4580971 - no change.
@abbodi1406 is there any way to use this without installing the updates that modify the build number from 6002 to 6003? I don't want the server 2008 updates so...
Maybe, but it doesn't worth the trouble it will require updates for SHA-2, SChannel, WinHTTP to support TLS 1.2 with modern cipher suites i don't think .6002 updates can do that all you may try WSUS Proxy instead https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/82538/
So I have this weird issue I tried to use the patch 2 times (on a physical pc and inside a vm both clean installs) The first time I press the "check for updates" button it works without any problems The second time I try it just hangs at "checking for updates" and nothing happens (left it for like an hour, then restarted the pc/vm and tried to check again but nothing happened) I want to get the office 2010 updates btw
Same. 0xC8000266 (Happen when I patch to get Server 2008 or Server 2008 + Vista updates after patching to get Vista-only one). It's was used to work previously. It's seem like WU/MU version 6 got fully shutdown or got bugged randomly, I try to visit the page on browser called Serpent (aswell on IE), However, one of them load while one of them got stuck on Connecting. Its ended up on a page with only these following words on Serpent when connect to the site: (note that sometime its happen) The service is unavailable Server is too busy (in large text)
@abbodi1406 Is there's a guide to integrate "Vista_SHA2_WUC" and "dotNetFx4_ESU_Bypass_Vista" to a vista image install.wim/mounted path?
This is in response to post #71 by OSMAN and post #72 by dungstophon. On December 14, 2020, I was able to successfully install and update Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit with this guide that I created with the assistance of abbodi1406: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/restore-windows-update-for-vista.82336/page-2#post-1632575 I decided today (April 11, 2021) to do another install and update of Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit by following the same guide, and to see if it needed editing or updating. Everything went fine until after I deployed the Vista_SHA2_WUC tool and ran "Patch_WUC.cmd" and selected option #1. Upon doing a check for updates in Windows Update, I was greeted a few minutes later with this message: Windows could not search for new updates Error(s) found: Code 80072EFE I switched to option #3, but that did not help. I checked to see if there are newer ESU Licensing Preparation Package and Servicing Stack Update releases for Windows Server 2008 64-bit, but there was not. So for now, I am at a standstill with updating Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit until a solution is found.
abbodi1406: I did a Google search on error code 80072EFE. Someone suggested there may be a connection issue with the Windows Update servers and to wait awhile before doing another "check for updates". I decided to follow that advice and wait for awhile. Option #1 in "Patch_WUC.cmd" was selected to obtain important updates for Windows Vista SP2 64-bit. After the "checking for updates" process completed, I was happy to see 173 important updates displayed. I was even more happy to see all 173 of them install fine. Option #3 in "Patch_WUC.cmd" was then selected to obtain important updates for Windows Server 2008 64-bit. After the "checking for updates" process completed, I was greeted with a different error code C8000266. I kept rechecking for updates, but kept being greeted with the same error code. I'm going to take a break until tomorrow and then try again. I'll keep you posted.
I decided today (April 12, 2021) to start from the very beginning to see if I am more successful than I was yesterday. Unfortunately, I encountered the same problem that I did in post #75. It took several retries, but I was finally able again to complete what is in the second paragraph of post #77. Using option #3 in "Patch_WUC.cmd" to install the Windows Server 2008 64-bit updates still brings up an error code. Hopefully, abbodi1406 or someone else here will find a solution.
I have success when I choose option [1] Patch WUC as Vista and option [2] Patch WUC as Server2008 as Windows Update finishes and displays updates. If I choose option [3] Patch WUC as Server2008 + Vista I usually get the error but there are times rather rare when it will work.
After several "Check for updates" and "Try again" attempts using option #3, I took your advice and switched to option #2 and then restarted the computer. The very first "Check for updates" was successful and displayed 57 important updates for Windows Server 2008 64-bit. 56 of those updates installed successfully. The 1 update that failed to install was for Microsoft .NET Framework. After I deployed the "dotNetFx4_ESU_Bypass_Vista" tool and then restarted the computer, it installed successfully. This install of Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit is now up to date to March 2021.
