Did you install the certificate to the user root certificate authority store or the local computer root certificate authority store? It does not work if you installed it to the user one. Check the button, "show physical stores" when installing the certificate.

but the problem is when i install the root certificates on xp sp0, activation still wouldnt work because i recall that xp sp0 doesnt recognize some or more of the certificates from the root certificate update when xp sp3 does.
if you look at certmgr.msc after installing the root certificate update, you can see that looking at some certificates, xp thinks they are invalid.
i added the wpa activation server to ssl no-verify and it worked because previously it kept giving me ssl certificate failed errors.

also i forgot to add that you have to keep adding the value for oobetimer back everytime you log off and log back in.
this happens because you are not actually activated.

Didn't work for me. It still tries to connect to the urls through the proxy. Fortunately, I have an alternative method I am going to try right now.

I used Windows XP Professional RTM Retail. What program did you use? I didn't get any license error.

retail? the hosts file method worked fine on retail for me (same goes for maile3241) but not on corporate.

To get it working, I used the program muBlinder, it replaced the legitcontrolcheck.dll file in system32 and replaced it with a modified one that removed the mpa check. I am using Retail, when I installed, I put in a retail key and it worked.
