Just tried it. Backed mine up, ran yours, scanned for new hw changes in dev mgr. crash. Standby for the whocrashed report and results.

It's running fine just crashed. I checked dev mgr and I HAVE SOUND VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS! see screen shot. Going to "update" the driver and see what that does. Could just be that it was included in your reg file but we'll see.

**EDIT** Never mind... "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

Ok so strange thing just happened. After the reg thing I had to restore from an image I had created. Not that bad. It was created right after I had installed all drivers so it wasn't that bad. I had been on the computer all evening getting Office and a couple of other things installed, had to step away so I put the laptop in hibernate mode.

I came back and started my notebook and it apparently had completely shut itself off as it was at the screen where you choose startup repair or normal startup. I chose normal start up and it went to the normal loading screen but said "applying update 143 of 143 to registry/machine/components"

I thought that was odd but I let it continue, and it then restarted. Then it tried to boot from a DVD I had in the optical drive!!! It actually said "disk read error. Press ctrl+alt+del to restart".

Restarted, booted up, and it was then installing my Ricoh crap. No sign of the optical drive or sound. I'm installing update 24 of 129 right now but after its done I'll post the screen shot I took.

Ok so I really am thinking this is software now. I was almost convinced last night I was crazy and it was mobo failure. This proves I'm not and that SOMETHING is keeping the soundchip and optical drive from functioning. I just wish I could get MS to pull their heads out of their butts long enough to check.

Anyone have any thoughts on this??

Well it just finished installing all 129 updates an now won't boot. Tried in safe mode and it hangs at Classpnp.sys. Just going to shut it down and nap for a couple of hours till my daughter wakes up and see what it does then.

It's not just me- that's strange right???

I just installed W7 on my mom's desktop without any issues at all. Makes me wanna toss mine out of a moving car lol.

I have a quick question... what is in charge of PnP devices? Is it a controller, 1394 thing, registry? I will occasionally get this message that says a USB device has malfunctioned when there isn't a USB device attached to my computer. In dev mgr it has "unknown device" under USB. When I scan for new hardware changes it crashes my computer. It seems that the Ricoh drivers (rimsptsk.sys) it's what is causing most of it but I can't seem to find more updated ones.

    1394 is FireWire.

Its a problem with over heating in all the HP dv2000 thru dv9000, you lose audio, then dvd, then wifi and then complete shut down. there is a class action law suit against HP. google lost audio on my HP dv laptop. But I fixed mine-- bought a Dell. I had a HP dv2500 special edition pavalion entertainment dual core AMD, AMD cpu is the main problem running so hot it burns the audio chip and finally shut down. Good luck gypc:worthy:

If it's an over heating problem and the lap top is out of warranty, I'd have to take it apart, blow out the dust, and reseat the cpu using new TIM "thermal interface material". Certain types of TIM can dry out, after that your cpu won't be running cool anymore which tends to cause all sorts of strange problems. It's a bit tricky taking apart certain laptops. You might want to also verify the high cpu temp using core temp.

If the chips are burnt up you can't save it anyway so don't have much to lose.
