Well I don't have WinRAR installed so there goes that theory. ;)

I see that Porkrinds has FF3.5 installed. As do I.

Is there anyone with this issue that *doesn't* have FF3 installed?

the problem is firefox who is in 32bits.
Firefox works but it is not compatible with windows7 64bits and vista 64bits (bug).
uninstall Firefox and the problem is solved. Never Right Click Explorer Crash.
Waiting for firefox 3.6 in 64bits.

    Thank's.

as far as i know there are 2 reasons why explorer.exe crashes on win7

first, explorer.exe crash tends to happen after running 32 bit apps on 64 bit win7

because win7 often keeps locking some application files even though the application itself has been closed

the workaround is to unlock those files with some unlocker program such as lockhunter. unlock firefox folder after closing it and the crash will stop happen

second, is because some incompatible context menu extensions. disable KIS shell extension and the crash will never happen, though you will lose the right click scan feature

When its about to crash after I right click and the loading sign comes on, if its able to go through (before it crashes), (regular right click on desktop, no icons) 'Next Desktop Background' is suppose to be listed but it doesnt, then after the crash it shows. (Only if you have it set to rotate through backgrounds) May have nothing to do with anything but It did seem odd

its not just a random occurence. even with me formatting and reinstalling even using a iso from a good source i would still get the crash. this was going on since vista 64 sry but that is not a random occurence. i formatted thinking it was this and that a number of times and the crash came back b/c i kept installing FF thinking how the hell could a browser do this.. formatted once lasttime and never installed firefox and never had the crash again! format and do not install FF and see wut happens.

plus he only had a few programs installed not many at all. and boom one of them was firefox seems obvious to me

but just to be 100 percent sure its a software issue and not a hardware issue i would memtest memory and such goodluck

Right, no WinRAR here, ever. I turn off right click menu options on CCleaner during install, so there is nothing from CCleaner showing when I right click my desktop.

CCleaner changelog shows support for Windows 7.

This is something that only started happing to me about 1 month ago on an older Vista install. I reinstalled Vista x64, got same issue. I clean installed Windows 7, same issue.

well it seems that no matter what it is traced down to some sort of shell extension of some sort. I wonder what the common denominator is here..

I've reinstalled Windows 7 Pro x64 as some people have reported its an issue with Ultimate.

I reinstalled most of the stuff I had on the PC before including KIS2010, except FF3. I haven't disabled any context extensions and it seems to be stable. No crashes so far.

At the moment it looks likes its either an issue with Ultimate and/or FF3.

i tried home edition/business vista/7 also x64 and the crash was still present so i dont think its a ultimate issue

i think its a combo of x64 and FF, but if you say no FF and no crashes so far maybe we got something going. let us know over time

Well I've installed KIS 2010 followed by FF3.5.3 which has just been released. I've only been installed for a few hours but I've been opening and closing FF and right clicking on everything is sight. :D

No crashes so far. I see how I go over then next couple of days.

Ok, I freshly burned and installed Windows 7 RTM X64 again, and with that I installed FireFox + Few Extensions (All Glass FireFox Mod 2.1.2, Kaspersky URL Advisor 9.0.0.463, MultirowBookmarksToolbar 3.8, and AdBlock Plus 1.1.1), KIS10, 7Zip, Java, Divx Web Player, Klite Codec Pack Full, Mp3Tag, uTorrent and Windows updates. I disabled KIS context menu items with ShellExView and thats it, so far no crashes. Even dragging 30gigs from my backup drive to my main while right clicking everywhere it all went smooth, so we'll see what happens.

The K-lite Codec pack has worked fine with Windows 7 Beta, RC and RTM for me, so I'm doubtful its the problem, especially considering a few of the people experiencing the problem don't even have any Codec packs.

I've now been running W7 Professional x64 for the last couple of days without a crash.

Last night I installed Sharks Windows 7 codec pack and had an explorer crash shortly after. It happened went I tried to delete about a dozen files while VirtualDub was processing an .avi in the background.

I'm not sure if this is related to the usual crash as the faulting module was reported by the event manager as unknown instead of ntdll.dll.

    Using Antivir , Winrar and Firefox 3.5.3 in a W7 64 RTM.

I gotta let you guys know that I haven't gotten any bsod's but I do get a crapload of FF crashes on a daily basis. I don't remember it crashing as much on any other system as much as it does now. Come to think of it on 32 bit aswell it always crashed. I'm talking about atleast 3-5 times a day... :(
